PLC Work Day #1
1. Will non-ELA Math teachers have access to MAP reports? A: Working on this, to make it happen. 2. Will you suspend our PLC meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 29 due to the data-based lesson planning training during our planning period? A: Yes. It's done. Next PLC meeting will be on Thursday, Sept. 24 and again on Thursday, Oct. 1. 3. Is the DP whole group? One DP? A: Yes, However, you can modify your action steps to personalize your DP. Your DP is due in AIMS on September 30. 4. Can we schedule our own meetings to move our PLC/DP along? A: Yes. However, it's on a voluntary basis. Each individual will be required to document how they are individually participating in discussions and problem solving with team members. Remember, to review the rubric language. This will distinguish Effective from Highly Effective. 5. Are we going to get data for the whole school? A: We have the DEA data from last year and some of the Spring and Summer EOC results. We can tell you from last year's PLUS 2 meetings where students were weak and strong. Remember, the FSA results have not been fully published. However, the School Improvement Leadership Team will be compiling the data and will share within the next couple of weeks. Don't forget, you can also use any common formative assessment results, bell ringer results using the SMARTboard responders, a survey, a performance based rubric, etc. to build your data source. The Bay Writes Analysis should be returned soon. Hopefully, the MAP reports will be easier to access in the coming weeks, as well. 6. What the page numbers you referenced in the meeting and from which book? A: I read the question: What should be accomplished in PLCs? One of the district's responses was to review the Learning by Doing book on pages 59-93. It's the chapter 3: A Focus on Learning.
Celebrate Freedom Week! Sept. 21-25, 2015
Florida Law requires public school districts to commemorate the founding principles of our nation during the last full week of September. This will be observed next week, September 21st-25th (please see excerpts from the law below)
- To educate students about the sacrifices made for freedom in the founding of this country and the values on which this country was founded, the last full week of classes in September shall be recognized in public schools as Celebrate Freedom Week. Celebrate Freedom Week must include at least 3 hours of appropriate instruction in each social studies class, as determined by each school district, which instruction shall include an in-depth study of the intent, meaning, and importance of the Declaration of Independence.
- To emphasize the importance of this week, at the beginning of each school day or in homeroom, during the last full week of September, public school principals and teachers shall conduct an oral recitation by students of the following words of the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
- Student recitation of this statement shall serve to reaffirm the American ideals of individual liberty.
Mrs. Smiley will modify the RAP sessions for Thursday and Friday to fulfill this law.
