Art Teachers Work with Artists of Color

KPS art teachers partnered with the Kalamazoo group Artists of Color to create a collaborative mural for the teachers' professional development. They created a piece that was inspired by urban art and could be replicated with students later in the year. AOC was founded by a group of KPS graduates and the professional development was led by Felicia Nikia Thomas and Gerald G-Ride King. Follow them on Instagram at A.O.C_Kzoo.

People Notice Your Good Work

Sometimes, things can be a little rough, but people do notice — and appreciate — your good work! Someone on Facebook posted this kind message in support of our bus drivers.

Join CIS Walking With Purpose

Walking With Purpose is a month-long initiative to get active, raise awareness and raise funds to support students in Kalamazoo. (Woodward has already created a team!) We walk now so that they can walk later…at graduation and into a brighter future of their own design. Learn more on our website: https://ciskalamazoo.org/walking-with-purpose/

There is so many ways to participate in this fun, community-building effort, and here are few:

Form a walk team: Become a team captain to recruit a team of walkers and fundraisers (we have a goal of 40 teams and most teams will have 5+ walkers). Teams will be invited to walk and raise awareness and funds through their participation. We will offer suggestions, but both the fundraising and walking goals are determined by you and your team. Working together, the 40 teams will walk a cumulative 12,000 miles over the course of October. The miles are symbolic of the 12,000 students we support. There will be a team captain kick-off on Tuesday, September 21st from 5:00-6:00 and walking officially starts October 1st. Team captains can register here: https://secure.givelively.org/donate/communities-in-schools-of-kalamazoo/2021-walking-with-purpose/fundraisers/options (select create a team)

Support the 40 teams by pitching in miles: In addition to the 40 teams, we expect that we will need extra help reaching our 12,000-mile goal. If a walk team is not for you, a one-time walk at/near your office to help us reach our goal could be a great option for getting your team involved.

Walk and fundraise on your own: Click here to set up your own page: https://secure.givelively.org/donate/communities-in-schools-of-kalamazoo/2021-walking-with-purpose/fundraisers/new.
