Dear Boone Meadow Families
We have a busy and exciting seven days remaining prior to our winter break. Wonderful things are happening at Boone Meadow each day, and I am grateful for our staff that pours into our students each day. Don't forget that our last day with students for semester 1 is December 20th. Our winter break begins with no school on December 21st and a return to school on January 3rd.
Piano/Welcome Music - Dr. Robison was our guest pianist to launch our welcome music sessions, and we are now calling out all piano players to consider playing welcome music during arrival. This invitation is open to students and parents/guardians. To get on the calendar, simply call Barb or Beth at our front office (317-873-2226) during school hours to reserve your spot. We ask guest pianists to arrive by 7:40 and plan to play from 7:45 - 8:05. We can't wait to see who will welcome us in the mornings.
NWEA Testing - The testing window continues to be open through December 16th. You should receiving information from your child's teacher regarding the dates and times specific for your child's class.
STEM Science & Engineering Fair - Our Science and Engineering Fair is scheduled for January 26th (corrected time is 6:00-7:30)! Any kindergarten through 4th grade student that is interested in participating needs to bring a signed proposal form to Mrs. Benson no later than Friday, December 16th. Body Safety Presentations on December 12th & 13th
Dear BME Families,
As you know, the safety of our students is our highest priority. We routinely practice safety drills and engage in ongoing safety education of our students throughout the year. We teach guidelines and principles in a way to develop student agency, allowing them to regularly make decisions that prioritize their safety across settings and situations.
One topic within the larger umbrella of Safety Education is that of Body Safety. A few examples of Body Safety topics include wearing seat belts and helmets, looking both ways to cross the street, keeping hands to self, eating healthy foods, and following school procedures such as walking in the hallways. Body Safety education also encompasses the prevention of childhood abuse.
ZCS has partnered with the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide (ICPYAS) to assist us in providing the instruction of strategies for abuse prevention. This instruction will be provided to all students at Boone Meadow on December 12th and 13th, 2022. ICPYAS is a non-profit organization that employs certified instructors who deliver research-based lessons to students in developmentally appropriate ways as a means to give children strategies to keep their bodies safe. All students in grades K-12 receive the instruction on an annual basis, in accordance with state legislation SEA 355.
To learn more about these presentations, be sure to visit https://www.indianaprevention.org/parentresources and click on the “Child Lures Video”, which provides information regarding the content of this program. The website also contains links to additional resources. In addition, all Kindergarten families, as well as families new to BME will receive a supplemental guide in December.
Parents have the opportunity to opt out of this program, if desired. The opt-out form is attached at the bottom this message. (We will have additional copies available for you should you need a hard copy - simply call the front office or notify your child's classroom teacher with a request for the paper version.) Please note, this opt-out form should only be completed and returned if you desire for your student NOT to receive this body safety education.
Questions regarding this program should be directed to Kristi Sloan.

Adopt Team Meadow
It's Adopt Team Meadow time! This activity is a way for all of us to donate *small* amounts to multiple BME team members - like your students’ teachers (including their special classes), their bus drivers, Nurse Amy, and even Principal Hundley! At this time, all of the wonderful BME staff have been "adopted" by BME families.
Now is the time to contribute to their gifts! See this list to donate to the gift coordinators for all of your favorite BME folks: https://bit.ly/ATMContribute.
If you have any questions at all, please contact boonemeadowpto@gmail.com.

Please reach out to our counselor, Mrs. Sloan, if you are in need of assistance to obtain cold weather gear. School Safety: Visitors & Volunteers Background Checks
When volunteers are needed and approved, appropriate staff members will reach out to you in effort to welcome your support and assistance.
If you plan to volunteer or visit in the future, please note the following information.
Click here for information regarding required Background Checks for volunteers: ZCS Volunteer Background Check
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS
We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building typically offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. If you plan to assist as chaperones or engage with children in a volunteer capacity, we strongly recommend getting a criminal background check completed well in advance to have on file.
Examples include:
- Field Trip Chaperones
- Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
- Tutors
- Volunteer Coaches
- Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
- Library Helpers
- After Prom Workers
- Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
- Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.
Examples Include:
- Lunch Guests
- Classroom Guest Speakers
- Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
- Parent/Teacher Conferences
*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.
