Where the Adventure Begins...
HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Happy Friday, parents! Thank you so much to those that donated clothes for our clinic! We are all stocked up!! Y'all are awesome!!
As you know, the sick season is upon us! We are seeing an increase in the flu and a tummy virus making its way around. If your child wakes up not feeling well or not acting like themselves, please err on the conservative side and really consider keeping them home. This weekend we are having an extra deep clean of the building so we can return Monday germ-free! Please take a minute to read the letter below from our beloved nurse, Mary Jo Christensen, who takes SUCH good care of us! Thanks for helping us stop the spread of germs!
So each week, the highlight of my job is interacting with all the children. This week I had one student so excited to tell me how many great days he has had! He shared that he has been making good choices and using self-control. I am so proud of him!! I had another student share a book that he can read all on his own now! Wow!! What a smarty pants!
And then, I visited Mrs. Shallcross' PM class. I was discussing current events with a little guy in there named Will. I told him I needed to work on my weekly letter to parents and asked him, "If you were going to tell all the mommies and daddies something about our school, what would you say?" He said, "I love it here!" "Why?" I asked. He said, "Because I get to be in my class with all my teachers and friends every day." He also went on to say we should go shopping with some toy money he was playing with. I told him, I would have to check with his mom!
Every child here faces challenges of some degree. Some are typical every day challenges for a child their age. Some of the challenges are big. When I say big, I mean BIG. But what I can say about ALL of our students is that each one shows us determination and perseverance. We have some of the strongest, most amazing little humans I have ever met and they bring us joy every day.
Thank you for sending us the best kids in the world to love on and work with! You make the tough work so worth it for these little ones!!

The Counselor Corner
During guidance students will learn what empathy is and have an opportunity to practice empathy. We can cultivate empathy in many ways, but what is it? Most will agree it is the ability to understand others and others’ perspective. However, there’s more to it. It’s not just to understand, but also to value and to have compassion. Our students will participate in a lesson and have an opportunity to recognize and practice empathy.
Try to give your children opportunities to practice empathizing, and model expectations. You can also ask your child questions like, “What did you like about today?” “What did you not like about your day?” “How did you show someone you know how to be kind?” Daily conversations with our children will help guide them to be kind and compassionate to those around them.
