Week at a Glance - Family Edition: 10/7-10/11
Grass Valley at it's Finest!
Small Groups!
Students in Ms. Coleman's class meet in a small group to identify long vowel sounds in a passage they are working with. They supported one another and practiced justifying their reasoning!
Junior Coaches!
Students from the Wellness Council are getting trained as Junior Coaches. They will support in structured games during recess, as an additional support for the Grass Valley Way on the Yard!
Parents at GV!
Parents of some of Grass Valley's students worked to organize and collect money for our first fund raiser of the year. They also organized the $1 Pancake breakfast for Saturday. Thanks to these families and all of the others who support these important parts of students' experiences at Grass Valley.

- Bullying Prevention Month This month is Bullying Prevention Month in OUSD. We will be discussing what it looks like to be Respectful on campus, during Community Circle and in classrooms. Please be sure to support your student in understanding that bullying is not tolerated here at Grass Valley and that they should always talk to a teacher or trusted adult at school when they experience or see bullying take place.
- Cell Phone Policy Students who bring cell phones to school, must turn them off and leave them in their back pack. If cell phones are found in use at school, students will receive a warning the first time. If a student has a cell phone out again, it will be confiscated by the adult and held in the office until the parent can pick it up.
- No Sandals at School Students who wear sandals to school will not be able to play on the play ground and will be asked to call home for a change of shoes.
- Getting the newsletter online! We'd like to continue sending out the Week at a Glance, but will begin doing so ONLINE ONLY. Please be sure the office has your email address for us to add to the list! We currently have correct emails for about 80 families.
- Communication on Campus I’d like to take a moment to remind you of appropriate communication conduct while on campus. This includes remaining respectful to all students and adults, as well as communicating without yelling or using profanity, at any time. If you have a concern or need support in addressing another member of the Grass Valley community, please come to the office to speak with Ms. Beckner.
- Volunteering in Classrooms We cannot do this without you - our families! If you are interested in volunteering in your student's classroom, please check in with the teacher We'd love to have you!

A bit about Ms. Beckner...
I feel so excited and honored to have the opportunity to lead as a member of the Grass Valley staff! This is such a vibrant and tight knit community and I look forward to continuing to get to know the many facets of it. As you get to know me, you will learn that I am very transparent, so please reach out with questions and communicate your needs, so that I can do everything in my control to support you in meeting the needs of the incredible young people we serve.
