Tiger Choir Chronicles
Travis Tiger Choir Weekly Updates
August 21 - August 25
Welcome Back!
Go Tigers!
News for Everyone
What Did We Do Last Week?
- Every class spent time this week reviewing and learning rhythm symbols and values. We had rhythm exercises in the form of sight-reading and prep sheets, but also played a fun rhythm game that required students to work in teams to come up with correct rhythm patterns.
- 1st and 2nd period have moved from sight-reading solfege syllables and their vertical relationship to each other to identifying and reading pitches on the staff in the Key of G.
- 3rd period and 4th period spent the week reviewing intermediate rhythms and exercises in the Key of G.
- Every class also finished learning two songs and can now sing through both the Travis Alma Mater as well as the Star Spangled Banner on solfege!
Classroom Expectations
- Cell phones, tablets, air pods, and headphones should be IN BACKPACKS during class. Students should not have their phones on their person unless told it would be needed. This allows us to stay focused and efficient with our class time. Points will be deducted from the weekly grade from students having/using cell phones during class.
- Punctuality: Students should be in their seat with their binder ready to go when the tardy bell rings. Points will be deducted from the weekly grade as this is considered "choir tardy." If students are in their seats with all needed materials on time, it allows us to maximize our time together for learning.
- Food & Drink: Students may have a bottle of water on the risers, but eating or chewing gum during rehearsal is not allowed. This is not only a safety concern, but it also helps keep our room and choir risers as clean as possible. Drinks with sugars, dyes, or non-water liquids cause pest and cosmetic issues if they are accidentally spilled. Students are welcome to have a quick snack prior to class if needed, as long as it still permits them to be in their seat on time.
Choir Fees
Students MUST have a $25 minimum paid in order to receive their polo shirt for performances.
I greatly appreciate everyone's prompt attention to paying choir fees. I understand that every family's situation may be different so PLEASE do not hesitate to email me and let me know if your family needs an extension. As I told the students, finances should NEVER be the reason they can't participate in choir. I just need to be aware so we can make a payment plan that works for your family.
When you go online to pay, please be sure you select the correct choir fee. Students in Treble Choir (1st period), Tenor-Bass Choir (2nd Period), and Advanced Treble Choir (4th Period) are considered "Non-Varsity." Students in Chorale (3rd period) are considered "Varsity" and should pay the appropriate fee. However, students in a non-varsity class who wish to audition for the All-State process will want to select the "Varsity" fee as it includes the cost of the audition entry.

- Help by purchasing needed items from our Amazon Wishlist posted on the choir website . Each of the items on the list will help us stay organized and support students in their choir success while allowing us to use the budget funds to purchase large items, music, and other supplies.
- Become a Choir Sponsor! If you or your business would be interested in becoming a choir sponsor, please see the "Support THS Choir" page on the website, or email Mr. Miner for more information and how to donate!
Upcoming Assignments
- All students have a "Website Quiz" to complete that has questions related to the website. The purpose of this assignment is to teach students how and where to access information themselves on our choir website. If students are empowered with the tools and know where to find information when questions arise, it helps to minimize emails, Remind messages, and questions in class.
Assignments Past Due
- FORMS are now past due as a completion grade. If you're child has a "0" in Skyward, it is because I have not received their stapled form packet. The late-work policy does not apply to this assignment so as soon as your child returns the completed forms, the grade will be changed to 100. If your child has lost their forms, they are available on the choir website.
- Schoology Week 1 Assignment. The late work policy is in place for this and all future Schoology assignments. Students' lack of planning or technology issues are not an excuse for late work. Students have been reminded throughout the week, and are also welcome to use the classroom iPads anytime before or after school to complete their assignment.
