Mustang Memo
February 2023
Here's what's happening at East Meadows...
February is a busy month so be sure to read through the newsletter for more information about...
- Love to Read Month
- Valentine's Day
- White Ribbon Week
- Literacy Week including Books & Buddies
The weather has been cold and snowy but we are looking forward to warmer, drier days ahead. Until then, remember to dress you child for the weather each day as we still try to get students outside in the fresh air as often as possible.
Have a great month!
Mrs. Jordan
LOVE TO READ MONTH!
Your child will bring home a note and punch card this week explaining the program. Each night after your child does their home reading (15-20 minutes for younger grades, 20-30 minutes for upper grades) they can punch or cross off a square on their punch card. Once the punch card is full (toward the end of February) the student may turn it in to the teacher for safe-keeping.
On March 2nd & 3rd we will celebrate Dr. Suess's birthday and wrap up our LOVE TO READ month with a Seuss-A-Palooza event. The punch card will be your child's ticket for a special surprise that day.
White Ribbon Week - Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship - February 13th -17th
Please visit whiteribbonweek.org for more information and to access resources you can use at home in your individual families.
We will also have our Net Positive Assembly on Thursday, February 16th. Click here to access the Net Positive website for more information.
We look forward to partnering with families to promote internet safety.
Valentine's Day
This is such a fun holiday and it's even more fun when everyone leaves school feeling loved and included. We ask that parents please consider the following:
1. Please send a valentine for each child in the class so that no one is left out.
2. Please don't send "bigger and better" gifts or candy for only certain friends that will be handed out in front of everyone. If you have special gifts for special friends, please be discreet when delivering or handing out gifts after school.
3. We encourage parents to give Valentine gifts to their children (large stuffed animals, flowers, balloon bouquets) at home. Flowers, balloons and other deliveries will be held in the front office and given to students at the very end of the day to limit distractions in classrooms.
