Sierra Family Newsletter September 20, 2020
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
This is a momentous week ahead of us. It's hard to believe that it's been over six months since we've been able to teach students while they are AT SCHOOL. We are so looking forward to seeing their faces this week.
Thank you all for watching the Sierra Reopening Video For Families and Students (linked below if you missed it), supporting our expectations for reopening in a safe and healthy way, and for all you've done so far to support your children and our staff.
I also go into detail regarding drop-off and pick-up procedures one more time, below, since the new procedures are very different from years past.
Please study - your pop quiz is coming in the form of the real-life execution of this on Monday and Tuesday! :) Our staff will be out in full force supervising the drop-off and pick-up this week to assist with friendly reminders if needed while we all learn the new routines together. We will be observing traffic flow and students to see if there is anything we need to fine-tune. since this will be our first try at running the new hybrid procedures.
I've also added a warm welcome message for all of our sharks returning to campus this week via a special early-release Monday Morning Announcements for our hybrid students, below. The video has also been posted in their Google Classrooms.
We are deeply humbled by how fortunate we are to have such wonderful educational partners in all of you.
Thank you!
Amy Westberg, Principal
Because we can't allow parents/visitors on campus in this initial re-opening stage, I wanted to review the drop-off and pick-up procedures one last time. I've loved hearing from many of you the wide range of emotions from "SO excited to drop my kids off to you guys again" (HA!) to "I'm a little nervous!" We completely understand all of that and everything in between!
So, to re-cap:
DROP-OFF:
Students will remain off-campus (in car, on sidewalk, etc.) until they hear the 7:40 bell.
After the 7:40 bell, students will go directly to their classroom (without parent escort, no before-school recess).
ALL Kindergarten & 1st grade students will go to their classrooms through the kindergarten playground gate (no parents beyond the gate and parents walking onto sidewalk for pick-up must keep the sidewalk area physically distanced for staff and students using that area for coming off/on campus. If your K/1st grader is unable to get out of the car by themselves at the drop-off loop in front of the office, you need to park and bring them to the sidewalk because you may not exit your car while in the drop-off lanes to assist children out of the car. There will be a staff member available to assist with a curbside door if needed. DO NOT EVER have your child exit the car from the driver's side of the car when the sidewalk is to your right.
For drop-off of only 3rd graders & younger: use office parking loop.
For drop-off with cars containing only 4th graders or older, use back parking lot loop.
PICK-UP
K/1st graders - same as above. Pick-up from office loop is preferred, and we will have a staff member assisting our littlest sharks as needed with curbside doors there.
2nd - 6th grade
Pick-up in office loop
MONDAYS: PM K/1, 2nd & 3rd graders and any of their older siblings
TUESDAY-FRIDAY: 2nd/3rd Graders and any of their older siblings
Pick-up in back parking lot loop
MONDAYS: 4th-6th graders without a K-3rd sibling
TUESDAY-FRIDAY: 4th-6th graders without a 2nd/3rd grade sibling
Parents may not come into the heart of campus to pick up children, but may plan a meeting spot at a sidewalk at the street-side perimeter of campus.
