April 29 - May 3, 2019
Math
Monday, we will begin a new unit - Geometry. We'll start off by learning what defines a point, segment, ray, & line. Tuesday, the students will be introduced to 3 types of angles - acute, right, & obtuse. Wednesday, they'll become familiar with various polygons. Thursday, the students will learn how to recognize parallel, interesting, & perpendicular lines. Friday, we'll compare & contrast various quadrilaterals or 4 sided shapes.
In the afternoon each day, the students will be answering Math MAP practice questions, and we'll be going over the correct answers to help them become familiar with the various question types & testing tools.
Reading
Monday, we'll discuss how to recognize what point of view a story is written from. After listening to a story on Tuesday, the students will see if they agree or disagree with the narrator's point of view. Wednesday, we will dive into our poetry unit. First, the students will become familiar with the terms: poetry, rhyme, stanza, & alliteration. Thursday & Friday, we'll explore how author's add description to their poetry by using similes & metaphors.
Social Studies
Monday - Wednesday, we will learn about the 3 types of resources needed to produce a good or service - natural, human, & capital resources. Natural resources come from nature. Human resources provide the labor. Capital resources are man-made items needed to produce another good or service. Thursday, we will learn about opportunity cost - the sacrifices you make when choosing one option over other alternatives. Friday, the students will brainstorm ideas of a good or service that their group could provide. Then, they'll begin creating a business plan that will include the name of their business, the good or service that they'll provide, an idea for marketing their product, the supplies they'll needed, the price they'll charge, etc.
