CISD Full-Day Prekindergarten Expansion
Conroe ISD will be expanding all current half-day prekindergarten programs to full day in the 2020-21 school year. Currently, Houser and Houston Elementary Schools are the only campuses to operate full-day prekindergarten programs. The expansion is in response to the House Bill 3 requirement that all prekindergarten programs operate as full-day programs. Registration for the 2020-21 school year will take place April 20-24. Eligibility determination and enrollment will take place at the elementary school to which the student is zoned. Please visit www.conroeisd.net/ci/early-childhood/ for more information.
Paint the Path Pink
Mitchell Intermediate - March 28, 2020
Join Mitchell staff members, family, and friends for the 13th anniversary “Paint the Path Pink” event to support people who are fighting breast cancer. You can choose to walk the pink loop or participate in the 5K. A DJ will be there to pump up the crowd. The event was inspired by two teachers whose wives were diagnosed with breast cancer at the same time and others in our community facing this challenge. Consider joining our community event or donating to the event. Register now to participate in our “Early Registration Special”. Our event is being sponsored by “The Rose”. The Rose’s mission is to save lives through: quality breast health services, advocacy, and access to care for all. This local organization provides services to families in Montgomery County and the Houston area. We are honored to partner with such a respected charity and offer a program in which 100% of donations are tax-deductible. The Rose will be able to process donations electronically. Your registration includes the “Paint the Path Pink” T-shirt.

4th Annual “Drone Expo”
Thank you to Tessa Stuckey, LPC and Dr. Anu McDonald for leading our “Conversation with the Counselor” parent meeting. Additional thanks to all the parents and guardians that were able to attend. The conversation and ideas shared were beneficial in navigating parenting in today’s culture.
Classroom counseling lessons in January covered a variety of topics:
Kindergarten - We read Have You Filled a Bucket Today by Carol McCloud and discussed the differences between a “bucket filler” and “bucket dipper”. We also listed several ideas for filling other’s buckets.
1st Grade - We completed our Kelso lessons by learning and role-playing the last four Kelso conflict resolution skills. Students were reminded to use Kelso to solve small problems.
2nd Grade - As a reminder to our second graders that they are “smart-enough” and “strong-enough” to solve their small problems, we reviewed all nine of the Kelso conflict resolution skills. We also practiced using our problem solving skills by applying them to imaginary scenarios.
3rd Grade - Our lesson on self-esteem focused on positive self-talk. We read and discussed I Can Be Anything! By Diane Dillon. Students then worked as teams matching negative events with positive self-talk statements.
4th Grade - Our lesson on peer pressure began with the Oreo experiment. Ask your fourth grader if they were willing to take an Oreo. We then read and discussed Peer Pressure Gauge by Julia Cook. Students learned that peer pressure can be both positive and negative and the importance of choosing friends that encourage them to make positive choices.

Spring Pictures - Say Cheese!
Spring pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, February 18th. Please note that you will NOT receive an order form before picture day. The proof of the picture will be sent home with an order form at a later date.
AM & PM Car Rider Line
Please remain to the side of the road (Crownridge) for both morning and afternoon car rider line. Please wait your turn in line. DO NOT PASS THE LINE AND GO INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. In the morning, the buses are having difficulty getting through the car line and being able to get the children to school. The children need to be able to be let off the bus with time to eat breakfast and the bus needs to be on time for their other routes to the other schools. Also, during morning drop off and afternoon pick up, the main entrance is RIGHT TURN ONLY.
Afternoon Transportation Changes
If you are changing your Bobcat’s transportation for dismissal, you may do so in one of three ways:
- Write a note, put it in your child’s folder for the teacher
- E-mail bush@conroeisd.net
- Fax (936)709-1699
The e-mail or fax need to be received by Bush before2:30 PM. This allows us necessary time to deliver all requests to the classrooms.
Head Lice Information
Although not an illness or disease, lice is most common among children ages 3-11 and spread by direct head-to-head contact; i.e. during play at home or school, slumber parties, camps, sports and after school activities. Less often, head lice is spread via objects that have been in recent contact with a person with head lice, such as hats, scarves, hair combs, brushes, etc. However, it is always good practice to avoid sharing these items. Please also be aware that lice do not jump, hop or fly.
The best treatment for lice is prevention. Bush Elementary and CISD appreciates our families assisting us in the prevention and control of head lice in our school with routine family inspection after play and sports activities, prompt and effective treatment, and educating your student to avoid direct or indirect contact with other people’s hair.
Also, please remember outbreaks of head lice tend to occur when children return to school after summer vacation and school holiday breaks.
Conroe ISD follows recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), as well as those contained in the position papers of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) in the treatment for lice.
PLEASE VISIT ALL OF THESE WEBSITES FOR COMPLETE INFORMATION AND EDUCATION REGARDING HEAD LICE.
Healthy Children.Org – Head Lice: What Parents Need to Know is also an excellent website that provides complete information and recommendations approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Year round awareness and routine family inspection will help prevent head lice occurrences. Your child can return to school after lice treatment to avoid unnecessary school absences.
Please also visit the following websites:
Be a Flu Fighter! Get the flu vaccine
- Keep your sneezes and coughs to yourself (use a tissue or your elbow instead of your hand).
- Keep your fingers away from eyes, mouth, and nose.
- Please do not return to school or work until fever free for 24 hrs without the use of fever-reducing medications.
Traffic Safety & Daily Schedule
During morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, please cross streets with the assistance of a crossing guard. Crownridge is a busy street during our morning and afternoon transportation times, and we want to make sure all of our students are safe. Please do not block the single lane at the main entrance of the school. If waiting for carline, please wait on Crownridge. When the main entrance gets blocked, staff members are not able to get into the parking lot.
Also, please be cognizant of the stop signs on Crownridge at the beginning and end of each school day. Exiting the Bush parking lot during arrival and dismissal each day also requires cars to make a right turn. There is a sign posted at the exit with the times for right turns only. Parents, please do not drop your children off outside the playground gates on the path. All car riders should be dropped off in the carline in front of the building. It is important to the safety of our students that drivers follow all traffic laws. If you see anything concerning, please let school know. We will work with parents, staff, and CISD Police to ensure the safety of everyone in the Bush Elementary Community.
School doors open at 7:30 AM each day. There will be staff and safety patrol on the front porch helping open doors until 7:48 AM. At that time, all staff and safety patrol will come inside the building to start our day. If you are in carline after 7:48am please be aware there will be no staff to open car doors.
Daily Schedule -
7:30 AM - Door Open
7:48 AM - First Bell = safety patrol and staff will enter the building
8:00 AM - Instruction begins = Students are tardy if they are not in the building by 8:00 AM
