HSB NEIGHBORHOOD HOLIDAY GIFT COLLECTION
A HUGE thanks goes out to our wonderful HSB Hospitality Committee for their work to organize a holiday gift donation effort for our community. On November 20th, many HSB residents drove by the Dogwood Lodge to drop off generous gift and monetary donations for the children at our local Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center. Members of the Hospitality Committee were on hand to collect/organize these gifts and provide some sweet treats to our HSB residents! Thanks to the generosity of our community, $690 was donated, in addition to many gifts!
Check out the video below of this event that captured just a few of our generous HSB neighbors in action! Special thanks to Kim Hart & Melba Miller for their work to lead this effort.

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD...
LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AND SERVICE CREWS RESPOND TO CHAIN REACTION OF EVENTS IN HSB
First, a water leak caused a tree to fall. The roots of this tree caused damage to the water line when it fell, creating a need for Sharon Water to come and turn off the water, while they repaired the line.
Next, as the Sharon Water crews were working, several other trees fell, as a result of the ground becoming too saturated. One of these trees fell and landed on a power line, thus Wood County Electric crews were dispatched to come and do repairs, in order to restore the power outage that resulted when the tree fell.
Unfortunately, when the power line came down, it created some sparks, which ignited some dry leaves on the ground, thus starting a small fire. The Perryville Fire Department responded quickly to this fire and managed to successfully extinguish the fire before it spread very far.
So, while our residents were forced to manage without power or water for a period of time, we are very grateful for the prompt response of these service crews and the volunteer firemen. Several crew members who were on the scene admitted that they had never quite experienced such an unfortunate sequence of events and said it was one to remember!
A HOLIDAY HORSESHOE BEND PROPOSAL!
Their grandson, Kyle Williams, proposed to his future bride, Alissa Marshall, on Bob & MaryAnn's dock on Thanksgiving Day. Both Kyle and Alissa's parents, siblings, grandparents, and other family were gathered inside Bob & MaryAnn's house, watching this special moment together!
Kyle will graduate this year from East Texas Baptist University and Alissa will graduate in December of 2022. They are planning a wedding after her graduation.
Congratulations to this special couple and all of their wonderful family!

HOWDY NEIGHBOR!
MEET JERRY & SHIRLEY JOHNSON
Jerry & Shirley Johnson have lived in their home in Horseshoe Bend full time since 2007. They started building the cabin in 1996 and would come on weekends in order to finish it. They did most of the work themselves!
Prior to moving to HSB, Jerry & Shirley lived in Dallas. Jerry worked for Kraft Foods in Garland for many years and then went to work for Town North Mazda in Richardson. He diagnosed the auto problem (this was before car computers) when it came in for service and made sure the mechanics fixed it properly. Shirley was a secretary for 40 years before retiring from an oil company in Dallas. They have 4 children - 3 sons and a daughter, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. They all live in the Metroplex with the exception of one son and his wife who live in Aledo (near Ft. Worth).
In their spare time, Jerry loves to tinker on projects in his shed and Shirley loves to sew, cook, and read. When asked what they love most about living in HSB, they shared, "We love the quietness, peace, and people here. When we moved here, everyone knew everyone because it was a smaller community." A favorite memory the Johnsons have from their early days at HSB was one year, the community was holding a July 4th picnic down by the lake when a heavy rain and wind came up and all of the attendees had to work together to quickly gather everything up and take it to the lodge to finish their meal together!
Great neighbors = a great neighborhood! We are so happy you are part of our HSB community, Jerry & Shirley!
