Planning, instruction and grades

As we near the end of the first 9 weeks, I thought it would be helpful to share some basic expectations here at RHHS regarding planning, instruction and grades:

  • First and foremost, grades are a form of communication and should communicate what a student knows and/or can do.

  • Teachers of the same course meet weekly to plan instruction. Part of this planning includes developing assessments and identifying assessment dates.

  • Teachers will either pre-load assignments to be graded into PS -OR- communicate via Google Classroom or an email to let parents know when the next planned assessments are scheduled. The date on the PS assignment should be the date that the assignment is taking place.

  • Semester long classes typically have one graded assignment in a given week, based on what I have reviewed.

  • Yearlong (A/B) classes will not have grades posted in PS as frequently since these classes do not meet as frequently. Yearlong classes typically have one graded assignment every two weeks.

  • Students typically have at least two formative assessments prior to each summative assessment.

The first 9 weeks ends on September 28th - this marks the halfway point for semester-long classes and the 25% point for A/B (year-long) courses.

Progress Reports are scheduled to be distributed through Advisement on Thursday, October 11th.

Picture Makeups - senior and underclassmen

Underclassmen Pictures:

Lifetouch will be at RHHS on Thursday, September 27th, for makeup and retake pictures. Dual enrolled students can be here as early as 7am to have their picture taken. Students wanting to have a retake must bring their picture packet with them on picture day.

Senior Pictures:

Lifetouch will be at RHHS on Saturday, October 13th. This is the final date for senior pictures.

Dress code - back to normal dress code

RHHS has enjoyed not one, but TWO, weeks of Homecoming this year. Our students, faculty and staff enjoyed dressing up to support each day's theme and the participation was super!

Now, though, it is time to return to regular dress code. Our most frequent infractions continue to be dresses/skirts/shorts that do not meet minimum length requirements. For most students, this means that the track shorts or wind shorts are not in dress code. Another frequent infraction is rips/tears in jeans - rips/tears must be below fingertip length.

What happens if a student is out of dress code? Students are referred to an administrator, and the administrator works with the student to get the student in dress code. We loan clothes if we have them to loan. Students are welcome to call a parent/guardian to bring them different clothes. We work as quickly as possible so students are not out of class longer than necessary.

We are almost a full quarter into school, so dress code infractions should be minimal, if at all. Students out of dress code will be placed on the Obligations List for the infraction. They will be removed from the Obligations List once they serve the detention or participate in a Service Saturday.

Yearbook - Senior Ads

Let your child know how proud you are of his/her accomplishments by purchasing a SENIOR AD in the RHHS yearbook. To purchase an ad, go to www.yearbookordercenter.com and key in our school’s order number (902) and select “Buy a Yearbook Ad”.

Service Saturday, September 22nd

This Saturday, 9/22, our SkillsUSA Club with advisor Yvette Crowe will be leading Service Saturday. Each Service Saturday, we invite anyone who would like to be part of giving back to RHHS to join the group that is leading the efforts that week. Students who are on the Obligations List for detention can also serve in lieu of detention. Service Saturday will begin at 8am.

Dual Enrollment Meeting

Students who are CURRENTLY dual-enrolled have a mandatory meeting on Thursday, 9/27, at 2:45pm, in the media center.

Class Dues

RHHS student dues will be uploaded to students’ MyPayments+ account on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Dues are $30 per year. Students only pay for the years he/she attends RHHS. The deadline for paying dues without incurring a late fee is December 1, 2018. When paying on MyPayments+, you will see a payment of $45. Please do not be alarmed by this. In an effort to streamline our payment process and make bookkeeping easier and more accurate, we have already included late fees into the total amount. To avoid paying late fees, please use the discount code "December1" - this will reset the cost to $30.

February 22, 2019 is the final date to pay dues in order to get a prom ticket covered by payment of dues. Any junior or senior student who wishes to go to prom and does not pay dues before February 22, 2019, will have to purchase a prom ticket for $125. Students who have not paid dues in past years must pay those dues as well as dues for this year by the due date in order to receive prom ticket or to be able to participate in graduation week events and graduation ceremony.

College Field Trip - Tuesday, 9/25

At RHHS, many of our juniors and seniors are well into their college preparation. Most are in the process of taking the ASVAB, ACT, and SAT - and others are already visiting colleges independently and filling out applications.

RHHS is excited to begin offering monthly college field trip opportunities to eligible juniors and seniors on a first come/first serve basis for the first 35 students to register beginning in September. Our first college field trip is this coming Tuesday.

All junior and senior applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Passing all classes with a 70 or higher

2. No more than 3 tardies

3. No more than 1 excused absence

Upcoming field trips for 1st semester include:

  • 9/25/18 - Georgia Southern University– Statesboro Campus
  • 10/24/18- College of Coastal Georgia (in Brunswick)
  • 11/06/18 - Georgia Southern University – Armstrong Campus

Fall Break begins October 1st

All Bryan County Schools will be on Fall Break Monday, October 1 through Friday, October 5. School resumes on Monday, October 8th.
