What You Need To Know About First Aid
Not Quite Sure Where to Begin?
The vast majority of first aid kits come equipped with First Aid Guides. These eliminate guesswork and better inform the unsure helper of what course of action is to be taken.
Phone A Friend!
While certain first aid jobs may seem easy enough to handle on your own, it is always beneficial to have as many people helping the situation as possible.
What If I See A Bystander Get Injured?
Follow these steps if you are not well acquainted with the victim.
- Dial 911 and ask if they are in pain and/or need help
- Proceed to help unless he or she expresses opposition
- If the victim is unconscious, take the initiative to offer your help
Sprains, Strains and Fractures
When internal bone and/or ligament damage occurs, exercise the utmost prudence. Internal injuries such as these are usually more detrimental than they appear to be. Strive to keep the afflicted area as elevated as possible without exacerbating the injury.
Things to Prioritize Depending on Injury
- Open wound: stop bleeding and prevent infection
- Burn: do not aggravate severe burns and wait for professionals to address the issue
- Spine, Head and/or Neck Injury: keep victim stationary until professionals can intervene
