2. KMS Artist | Mr. Keefe's Classes
Students in grade seven created hand built contemporary vase forms using col construction techniques. To construct the vase students rolled out clay coils and began stacking and attaching them as they worked. Paying attention to the form of the vase as it slowly changes shape. Refining and smoothing their forms before glazing. Vases were then fired in the kiln and brought to a temperature of 1800 degrees.
6th Grade Art
sixth grade students combined both clay slab and coil techniques to create Egyptian Cartouches. A Cartouche contain the name of the Egyptian royalty in a traditional oval form and were often found on tomb walls, sarcophagus and Egyptian architecture.
Student began forming their tablets by first rolling out slabs of clay with a rolling pin and wooden guide. Cutting the finished slab into the traditional oval shape of the Cartouche. Adding rolled coils of clay to create a surrounding border that they textured with pattern and shape.
To finish the Cartouche students carved hieroglyphs representing the letters of their name into the tablet using sgraffito tools. Applying acrylic paints as a finish, refining the object's overall appearance.
3. Rhode Island State Survey (RISS)
The town of Bristol/Warren has received a grant from the Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH), to continue strengthening Bristol/Warren’s capacity to address youth substance abuse. A requirement of this grant is that the school collects survey information about substance use attitudes and behaviors from high /middle school students. This survey is scheduled to be administered to students during the 2019-2020 school year between February and June of 2020. KMS will be taking the survey March 23rd.
Please complete the permission slip attached if you DO NOT want your student to participate in the survey. The form will also be coming home with your student as well.

15. All Band & Chorus Concerts- CANCELED
To the BWRSD community,
In an effort to be conscientious and cautious, the BWRSD Administration and Music Department have made the difficult decision to cancel the All Bands and All Chorus Concerts scheduled for March 10th and 12th at Roger Williams University.
We did not come to this decision lightly knowing the level of preparation and effort from our students. The district music faculty will explore the possibility of rescheduling these events sometime later in the year.
Sincerely,
BWRSD Performing Arts Department
