Mrs. H's Corner!

Welcome Back!

We are so excited to have all of our scholars back!

The first 3 weeks of school, students have been in 'Orientation'. During Orientation, students and staff go over our 3 school expectations; I am Respectful, Responsible and Safe. During this time, we went over 55 ways to SHOW how to be respectful, responsible and safe not only at school, but anywhere our students might go.

Below you will see a graphic of our School-Wide Behavior Plan. One of the top ways of communication is through Class Dojo. Our school and classrooms send daily and weekly important messages to families, along with communication of your scholars' behavior. Students have the opportunity to earn positive Dojo points throughout the day for various things. For a student to get a negative Dojo point, points taken away, a student has received 3 warnings from that teacher. (To put it in perspective, if a student has 2 negative Dojo points, the teacher has spoken to that student 6 times.) We truly believe that behavior is best corrected through instruction, just like we do with reading and math! We want to focus on the positive behaviors and reward students for the amazing things they are doing.

During Open House this month, you will have a chance to sign a 'Family Commitment', showing our school to home partnership. We know that we NEED YOU! Thank you for being who you are! We couldn't do it without you!

We are looking forward to an amazing year!

Did You Know?!: Another way to decrease your chances of getting sick this fall is to make sure you are drinking 8 glasses of water a day, getting 8 hours of sleep at night, and taking a daily multivitamin. This keeps your immune system healthy and able to fight off germs that come your way.

REMINDER: HealthFirst Clinic at William Wells Brown is open 8am-4pm Monday- Friday. We offer sick visits, COVID testing, sports physicals, well child check-ups, immunizations, and behavioral health care to any children 0-18, even if your child does not have insurance. Nahtahna Hering, LCSW

Greetings from your friendly clinic therapist, Nahtanha Hering, LCSW. I wanted to take the chance to reach out to all of you now that we have gotten a few weeks of virtual learning behind us. I know from working with some of my patients that many families and students are experiencing issues or stress from doing virtual learning, such as keeping kids focused and on task during the class sessions, getting the work completed, and dealing with emotional/behavioral issues in the home. If anyone has concerns about a specific child or family feel free to refer them to me. I would be happy to reach out to the family and discuss starting services. I am able to assist students with issues such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, and anger. I can also work with parents on developing good behavioral modification strategies to use in the home. Please reach out to the clinic if you have any questions or need to contact me. Thanks.
