Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
December 3rd-7th
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies/Science: This week we will wrap up our Social Studies unit on Explorers with a quiz on the Columbian Exchange. This quiz will be Tuesday 4th. After that we will start our next SCIENCE unit on Light. We will cover Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 in Light this week. Our unit test on Light will be before the winter break on December 19th.
- Mrs. Thurston and Ms. Uhlenhake's Math/ELA: We are going to be starting our new Lucy Calkins unit, Reading the Weather, Reading the World. However, we will be supplementing this unit to fit our Expert Exhibit coming up! Students have all picked a famous person that also has a Who Was book. They will be researching, writing a paper, and creating a speech about their famous person. Information was sent home with students. Ms. U's class will have their WTW test this Friday. This week in math, we will be continuing division. Please review this at home with your child. This is a difficult task to grasp for students who are not yet fluent in their multiplication facts. Students are encouraged to study their facts nightly for at least 10 minutes. They can use flash cards, reflex, ixl, or multiplication.com. A division quiz will be given this Friday.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math/ELA: This week we are finishing our Junior Great Books unit on Resourcefulness by reading "The Green Man". Students will take an open book test on this book on Thursday 6th. Students will also start a biography novel study this week where they will read and analyze a biography in class. This will help us in writing our own biographies for the Expert Exhibit during writing time. As a reminder, students will need a costume and prop for the Expert Exhibit on December 18th. Students will also take their spelling tests this week. In math, students will continue with our unit on division. Students will complete a review choice board this week using what they know about partial quotients division. A unit test on division will be on Friday. To avoid confusion, I will wait until after our test to show students the standard algorithm method of long division.
Book Orders Are Due Tuesday 4th
