Veterans Day Observance
The SCA handed out flag pins, patriotic headbands and slap bracelets to students on Wednesday morning. Members also created a banner that was displayed in the Commons.

VMASC-ODU National STEM Day
A team of Engineering II and III students competed in the VMASC-ODU National STEM Day competition Nov. 8-14! Our challenge: Build an arcade game with working mechanical components that dispense a prize and is made from reused/recyclable materials. The team chose to build a pinball machine out of Amazon cardboard boxes and used VEX robotics parts. You can find posts of the project on Twitter @PackerEngineers and @VMASC_STEM
Senior News
Jostens will be at SHS for cap and gown orders on Friday, Nov. 18, and Thursday, Dec. 1, during lunches (10:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.)
First senior breakfast will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, during Packer Block in the auditorium foyer. Morning CTE and Governor's School students can pick up items at 10:15 a.m. Remember that senior dues need to be paid to participate.
Please check the senior Google Classroom often. An additional senior trip survey will be posted on Thursday, Nov. 10. We had a tie between King's Dominion/Spirit of Norfolk and the DC day trip. Please vote by Nov. 16 so that the sponsors can plan accordingly.
- Senior dues are $75. Cash, check and money orders are accepted. Senior dues should be paid by Dec. 16.
- Senior Superlative voting is now available on the senior Google Classroom through Nov. 15
- Extended Deadline! Senior quotes for the yearbook should be submitted online by Sunday, Nov. 27. See the senior Google Classroom for more information on guidelines and how to submit.
ASVAB on Dec. 6
What is ASVAB and who should take it?
The ASVAB, Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, is a test that measures abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. It is also a highly effective career exploration exam for those students not wishing to enter the military but hoping to figure out the best career pathway available to them. This test is recommended for 11th- and 12th-grade students and there is no cost to take this test.
Test date and registration
The ASVAB will be given on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 7:45 a.m.
Students MUST sign up by Tuesday, Nov. 29, via the Google doc.
The test may take up to three hours
SPACE IS LIMITED SO THOSE INTERESTED NEED TO SIGN UP RIGHT AWAY. The link to sign up has been sent to student emails.
Softball Interest Meeting
There will be a softball interest meeting on Monday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m. in room 40. Any girls interested in trying out for softball should plan on attending. The meeting will last approximately 15 minutes. Please make arrangements to have transportation pick you up promptly at 3:15 PM.

Do you love Christmas carols? If so, then you won’t want to miss the SHS select choral ensemble’s “Choraliers Carol by Candlelight” a cappella concerts at Historic St. Luke’s Church on Rte. 10 in Smithfield on Dec. 2 & 3!
