MOVIE MORNING - Tuesday, January 31st
Dear Parents/Guardians:
To start Semester Two off on an inspirational and positive note, on Tuesday, January 31st, the school will be providing all middle and high school students the opportunity to see the movie Hidden Figures at The Liberty Theatre. Students will attend homeroom in the morning as usual. After homeroom, students will walk to and from the theatre with teachers and administration accompanying them. This outing will take up the morning and we will return to school in time for the normal Tuesday lunch break. Each student will receive admission, a popcorn and a drink at NO COST.
There has been a lot of buzz and conversation about this movie which is currently playing and receiving great reviews. The movie is the untold story of three African American women who were brilliant mathematicians working at NASA. These women worked behind the scenes and became the brains behind the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. There are many themes that are still relevant in today’s world and this is a wonderful film that will hopefully inspire and open young minds.
Students will be responsible for completing a short piece of writing during TA on Thursday, February 3rd, where they will discuss what take-aways they came away with and the relevancy of the themes present in the movie to their own lives and futures.
If parents do not wish for their child to attend the movie. please advise their homeroom teacher via email by no later than Friday, January 27th.
