Jen P's Advising Group
Middle College news for you!
Update #2 8.22.15
Hello, students and families!
We've made it through the first week of college classes and the second week of Middle College! I think we're off to a good start, but just to be sure, I am going to touch base with each student individually next week and see how things are going.
We started our regular MC schedule this past week, wrapping up our orientation activities and transitioning to our normal curriculum. All students have CCR first period (12:30-1:15) -- seniors have Halo for two days and Jen B for the other two days; juniors have me for two days and Alison for the other two days. On Wednesdays all students meet with their advisor for the first period. Second period is from 1:20-2:10 and students have either English or social studies. Third period is from 2:15-3:05 and students have whichever core class they haven't yet had: English or social studies. Juniors have English 3 with Jen B, US History with Halo; seniors have English 4 with me, Economics with Alison. Most of our course materials are shared in Google Drive; students should be using their my.smccd drive accounts to complete work in their class folders now. Students should also check their my.smccd email accounts regularly for communication from us and from their college professors.
We are also transitioning to using Infinite Campus for all announcements, assignments, grading, and attendance. This means you will have to go to only one website to check homework and attendance. We are still receiving training, but have started posting assignments and grading. Please see below for log in information.
Thank you to those parents who came to the parent social -- it was nice to see you again! I hope you enjoyed the opportunity to meet other MC parents.
Students, I am glad you chose Middle College -- let's make this a great, successful year! Please come to the MC office if you have any questions or concerns, or email me, if that's easier. Also, if you borrowed a copy of the summer reading book, please drop it off to me in the MC office or bring it to Advisory on Wednesday.
Parents, thank you for entrusting your students to us -- they are all wonderful and I am excited to work with them this year!

Parking
Campus security is currently enforcing parking restrictions in the staff lots and at the meters; they will begin ticketing in all lots starting on Aug. 31. Order your parking permit HERE.
College Admissions Tests
Seniors: I am recommending that all of you take the ACT and/or the SAT at least once this fall – if you do not take one of these tests, you will not be able to apply as a freshman. Keep all opportunities open at this time and take the test.
Talk to your College and Career counselor at your home high school about fee waivers, as they cover not only the test, but also UC and CSU applications.
Sign up soon – Carlmont (the closest testing location) is already full for the Oct test date.
