EAST PAULDING MIDDLE SCHOOL
January 3, 2017
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Most likely, we will all experience varying levels of success. However, it is those who find the drive to maintain consistency within their practices who will reach the highest levels of success and not return to their previous "slumber".
Whether it is physical health and fitness, weight loss, spiritual health, personal relationships, professional goals, or just changing your mindset, I wish you the best in 2018. I will be right there beside you, climbing my own mountains.
But remember, you don't climb a mountain in one step or on the sprint. You have to be methodical in your approach, claiming small victories here and there, demonstrating consistency in the small battles that will eventually lead you to larger victories. Expect to have some plateaus and failure along the way, but also expect to have the drive and determination to overcome those!

Computer Lab Use for Assessments and Surveys
During the month of January, we have two assessments that we must complete; the RI and Science Benchmarks. Additionally, Mr. Aarons and Mrs. Howey will be working with you to complete Student Health Surveys during NBI (Mondays). There will also be an upcoming plan for students to complete an Accreditation survey as required by AdvancED. Finally, as we move closer to Milestones, we will be using the labs to ensure students are prepared to complete the assessment on computers. All upcoming dates and the process will be communicated soon.
Please be patient if the labs are unavailable due to these requirements. We are looking to hopefully add some additional technology in the near future, but we will not see that opportunity until next year.
Professional Learning Feedback
We will do our best to provide some differentiated support with Canvas, and we are looking forward to continuing school wide growth with the use of Learning Targets.
Thank you again for sharing your needs and thoughts!
paulding county school district accreditation process
SQF teams will reflect and discuss effective practices and conditions, gather data to support discussions, and evaluate the overall effectiveness of our school and district.
SQF teams will meet 3 times to complete the evaluation process. Our review will be used by the district as their SQF teams complete the review at the district level.
2017-2018 School Improvement Plan
STRATEGIES AND INITIATIVES
1. Teachers will utilize academic vocabulary and anchor charts to increase student achievement in the classroom.2. Teachers will provide specific daily learning targets as a tool to direct student focus for each class period and monitor student progress via feedback and assessments.
WHERE ARE WE NOW
We are beginning the 2nd Semester, and it is important to regain the momentum and direction we had throughout the 1st Semester. It is important to reestablish the expectations in your classroom that students are an important part of our SIP focus. Continue to practice your daily focus of embedding academic vocabulary into your conversations and activities, creating or referencing at least 1 anchor chart each day, and writing and referencing a student friendly learning target throughout your lesson each day.
MONITORING
We will continue to monitor our SIP through formal and informal observations. Continue to refine and improve your practice of implementing learning targets, anchor charts, and vocabulary. I want to challenge you to hold yourself and your teamates accountable to stretching their limits. Our ultimate goal is to develop a building full of teachers who encourage and help each other become the best teacher they can.
MOVING FORWARD
3 words....Direction, Focus, Support.
