What's Happening!

After enjoying the long weekend it was great to see students motivated and working hard in class. Freshman class officer speeches and elections took place on Wednesday. All candidates gave thoughtful speeches and congratulations to our newly elected class officers Shaun McCarty, Nicholas Andre, Cailey MacEachern, and Natalie Barros. Congratulations to Emily Moran who won the New Hampshire Motor Speedway essay contest. To recognize this accomplishment representatives from NHMS visited THS to give Emily a ride in a stock car.

Fall sports seasons are underway, with many teams picking up wins this week. Sports captains discussed sportsmanship and what it means to be a team leader during a captain's breakfast.

As always for the latest news and announcements follow us on social media. Have a great weekend!

An experienced MEFA representative will provide an overview of the college financing process, including types of financial aid, how to apply, and financing options for your family. Families are encouraged to visit MEFA's website, mefa.org, for tools and resources to assist in this process. MEFA is requesting that you register in advance for the College Financing Seminar. If you are unsure that they will attend the seminar you can still register, as you will still benefit from the college planning email curriculum. While seminar registration is encouraged, you may still attend the seminar even if they don't register!

Community and Student Presentations

On Monday, September 18th Tyngsborough Public Schools is pleased to welcome Katie Greer to present to our students, faculty, parents/guardians and community members. Katie L. Greer has provided nearly a decade of Internet/technology safety education to schools, law enforcement agencies, large corporations, community organizations and at national conferences throughout the United States and Canada. Her unique professional, educational and personal background has resulted in dynamic programs that appeal to all age groups. Please see below for a description of the community and student presentations. Please note that audience members must be eighteen years old or older to attend the community presentation.

Community Presentation: September 18th at 6:30 in the Tyngsborough High School Gymnasium (Please note that this is an 18+ event)

Our kids are doing WHAT? What can I do to protect them? What apps should I be worried about? Is social networking safe? Is my child being cyberbullied? What’s texting? Sexting? What’s next? It’s often overwhelming being a parent today in our technology-driven society. Keeping up with the latest trends and dangers can often seem like an impossible task. Katie will help you navigate the digital waters and let you know what’s new, what’s now, and what’s next when it comes to your children and technology, and provides parents with proactive initiatives to keep kids safe. The following is an example of the information that is covered during this presentation:

  • Updates on the latest technology trends and dangers
  • Social media
  • Digital Tattoos
  • Interactive gaming
  • Case examples and real life implications
  • Cell phones/smartphones/devices
  • Cyberbullying laws and legislation
  • Overview of what message Katie sends to students
  • Rules and regulations
  • Q&A: Parents are encouraged to asked questions throughout, and the program will end with an open forum allowing parents more time to ask specific questions

Student Presentation

High school kids have seen it all and really in the thick of creating online reputations – whether they know it or not. What they often don’t understand is that people besides their friends (i.e. Colleges, law enforcement, principals, parents, and potential employers) are looking in on these behaviors regularly. With everything today being chronicled on social media, it’s important students this age fully understand where things go, and how it can impact them today or 5-10 years down the line. The High School presentation features an interactive program that invites students to share their personal experiences as Katie shares hers, plus:

  • Social Networking
  • Sexting
  • Cyberbullying
  • Digital Tattoos
  • Apps
  • Viral kindness
  • Q&A: Time permitting, Katie invites questions from students

THS Travel Information Night 10/11/17

THS has had great success with our travel programs over the years. Last year students enjoyed amazing experiences in Belize and Italy, while upcoming trips are scheduled for London/Paris and a service trip to Give Kids the World Village in Florida. 2019 travel opportunities are open to students in the classes of 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Due to the high volume of requests we have been unable to accommodate all our students who desire to participate. To make sure that all have an equal opportunity to travel sign-ups will be open at our information night and it is a first come first serve system.

Our travel night this fall will be the first look at trips for 2019. Students and parents are encouraged to attend. There will be opportunities to sign-up at reduced costs on this night. Please contact Kate Ramsay at Katherine.Ramsay@tyngsboroughps.org if you have any questions.

Yearbooks are currently on sale and time is running out to purchase a yearbook at its lowest price of $85.00. On November 1st, the price increases to $95.00. Please visit www.jostensyearbooks.com to purchase or contact Ms. Tayla Makevich.
