Strategic Sourcing - and Conservation!
Throughout 2015, Strategic Sourcing was able to donate an incredible amount of furniture to organizations such as the Orphan Grain Train, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and Parker Performing Arts, for a total of:
- 2,545 student desks
- 110 teacher desks
- 82 filing cabinets
- 185 desk chair combinations
- 945 student chairs
- 5 storage cabinets, 2 bookshelves, and 2 trapezoid tables
Before you order new furniture, check out the Surplus Catalog! They may have exactly what you need for free within the District.
We are so happy that this furniture not only avoided the landfill, but actually went to help other children who need it. Thanks for all you do to make this happen, Strategic Sourcing!
WM Recycling Education Center!
Have you ever thought, "wow, it would be really nice to take some students to learn all about recycling from the source?" Did you know that Waste Management has its very own Recycling Education Center? Well, now you do, and here is how to set up a field trip to check it out!
- Tours of the Education Center and Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site are available to students, teachers, and faculty at DCSD schools.
- Adults (teachers and staff) who are over 18 are permitted to tour the Residential Recycling Facility as well as other sites mentioned above.
- Tours will be offered on the first and third full weeks of the months on Tuesday or Thursday, between 10:00 am-2:00 pm
- There is a maximum of 25 children for any tour.
- All tours must be accompanied by an adult.
- To schedule a tour, please contact Lara Rezzarday at lrezzard@wm.com or 303-594-8389.
Worm Composting in the Classroom
5:30pm-7:30pm
November 3
Denver Urban Gardens
1031 33rd Street, Suite 100
Denver, CO 80205
By November the garden is winding down, and we start to shift our focus to garden-related lessons in the indoor classroom. In this workshop, we walk you through the process of assembling and caring for a worm bin. Learn how to connect your worm bin to life cycle and decomposition lessons, and work with your students to create compost throughout the winter, which can be used in the springtime garden.
Worm bin and worms are included.
