Principal Message

Greetings, Ride Families!

Our DI Team, the 4th Grade Riders, earned 2nd place at the State competition last weekend and now qualify to compete at the global level. We are so proud of the team, the coach, Mr. Harvey, and the teacher representative, Mrs. Brighton for their hard work, dedication and perseverance in achieving great success.

As we return from Spring Break, our teachers are busy planning for our fourth and final nine weeks of school. The teachers at Ride are very special. They spend a lot of time planning. Each grade level collaborates with each team member to do “Big Picture” planning which is for entire units or multiple units, weekly lesson planning, and small group instruction planning. Our belief is that the more we plan and the more intentional we are with each lesson, the better the instruction, learning and achievement at Ride. Thank you and the Sally K. Ride PTO for your support in this endeavor. Ride is a special place because of the incredible teachers and the wonderful parent support. I appreciate you!

First grade classes went to the Montgomery County Fair for a quick field trip. I don’t know what it is about animals and rides, but kids always have the best time! Not to mention the excitement of riding a school bus. Thank you to all of our parent chaperones who helped make this a very fun and special day for our Challengers.

Next week brings a new month and new opportunities to help your school. Spring Creek BBQ is one of our favorite events because they are one of our biggest supporters. They give us a large percentage of the sales and they also give the teachers and students shirts and gift cards. Come out and see your teachers passing out hot rolls and visit with your Ride community.

Online Registration for the 2023-24 school years is open for all grade levels, except for PK, which opens on April 1, 2023.

Have a great weekend,

Sincerely,

Megan Burnham

It’s Book Fair Time

We will host a Book Fair on April 11th – 17th in the school library. During the week, the Book Fair is open from 7:30 – 3:00. The Book Fair will be open on the evening of April 14th for Ride through the Decades. Our last day will be Monday, April 17th.

Profits from the Book Fair will be used to purchase books for our school library!

Digital Payment Option for Book Fair

We have a great digital payment option that is highly encouraged for students to use. Parents can set up an eWallet for students, deposit money into it, and students will not have to bring money to school. Visit our Book Fair homepage at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/sallykrideelementaryschool

to open up an eWallet account for your child. Any left over money in the eWallet will be put on a gift card for your student to use at future fairs or online. If you have money left over from the last book fair, you can sign in to your ewallet and transfer the money to this book fair.

Ride Through The Decades

The 2023 Ride through the Decades Spring Carnival planning committee is looking for silent auction items. If you own a business and would like to donate we would love to help promote your business. 100% of the funds raised through the silent auction go directly to the PTO, which then go directly into the school.

PTO funds various school functions including field trips, math and reading tutoring, teacher support, professional development, substitute pay, computer programs/licenses, technology, reading incentive programs, playground equipment and repairs, copy paper, school beautification and so much more. All funds the PTO raises goes towards enhancing each child's education at Sally K. Ride.

Lunch Sign-Up

Due to limited seating in the cafeteria, we are offering two options for lunch signups. You will have the opportunity to sign up to eat in the cafeteria with your child or outside in our gazebo/picnic table area. You will not be able to change locations after signup is complete. If you sign up to eat outside and it rains, you will be unable to move into the building due to limited seating. You may sign up for another day/time.

Each slot is available for two adults and the child you are eating lunch with..

Please see the schedule below for designated grade level lunch visitor’s days. Make sure that you sign up under the correct time slot for your child’s lunchtime. Each student may have a lunch visitor once every 3.5-week period. This ensures every parent has an opportunity to sign up. Remember to bring a valid id when you visit the building.

Due to limited seating in the cafeteria, we are asking all parents with small children to eat outside in the gazebo area.
