PARENT PORTAL
Parent Portal is a web-based service that gives parents the ability to access student data. Parents use a confidential personal identification number and password to view their student’s grades, attendance, assignments, and other information. If you have not yet established your account please contact Ms.Carrera at pcarrera@lonestartx.org.
Attendance – This page displays a record of your student’s attendance entries for the current school year. Teachers and Ms. Carrera generate the attendance entries. Entries of concern can be discussed with the office. If a student is absent a note to excuse the absences must be submitted within 48-hours of the absence.
Assignments - Assignments are graded in a timely manner such as homework, quizzes, tests, projects, etc. Once a teacher defines, organizes, and scores the class assignment, the student data will be viewable to Parent Portal users. There may be times when you do not see scores for a particular assignment. Please allow a few days for the teacher to enter data.
Teacher Spotlight
Safety and Security
Please be advised that all exterior doors are locked at all times. This means visitors should only enter through the front doors. After entering you should proceed directly to the office. All visitors to the school must stop in the office and identify him/herself and their purpose, sign in on the visitor log, and pick up a visitor’s pass. This includes parents, vendors, and any other visitors to the school. NO one, at ANY TIME, should proceed directly to a classroom without official authorization.
If you need to visit the classroom please make arrangements with the teacher via email.
If a teacher is not available the office staff will take a message and have the teacher call, email, or respond via dojo to you within 24 hours.
This procedure is for the safety and welfare of all staff and students.
Contacting LSLA Staff
If you’d like to reach a teacher or other staff member, emailing is one way to contact them regarding general information. If it is time-sensitive, or of an urgent matter, please call the office to leave a message.
Sometimes a teacher or staff member is absent, so they may not be checking their email or voicemail. If that is the case, there is no way for a substitute or anyone else to be aware there is an important message.
Please know that we strive to accommodate every family and pride ourselves on positive communication. Please know that using multiple modes of communication to relay a message is welcomed.
Physical Education News
LSLA Soccer Unit has come to a start this week with Coach Hurtado and Mr. Gamez. From kicks and dribble to pass and go our LSLA students are learning various skills.
BOX Tops for education
Easy Ways to Help LSLA Earn “Free” Money!
Clip Boxtops for Education – Each boxtop brought in is worth 10 cents to the school.
Thank you to all our families for your continued support. All “free” money that is given to our school goes to support our students in many ways. It is used for supplies, programming, field trips, and much more.
Visit BTFE.com for a list of participating products and additional ways to earn.
Attendance Corner:
Be on time. Every Day!
Parents, we need your support with getting students to school on time every day.
- Doors open at 7:00 AM daily.
- Students are marked tardy after 8:15 AM.
- Breakfast is served to all students, at the cost of $1.71. Breakfast is served from 7:00AM-8: 00 AM daily.
- Instruction begins promptly at 8:15 AM.
If your child is arriving late to school, please be sure to come in and sign them in at the office.
The LSLA Office Staff has received several calls requesting students to be called down to the office for early pickup. We do not call students down until a parent has arrived. Plan your pick-up time accordingly so that your child is able to organize their desk, gather his/her belongings, and report to the office.
Thank you for understanding.
Carpool:
Please keep your child's carpool number/tag on your dashboard until you have your child in the car. It is necessary for Coach Hurtado to see the number so she can call for the student when you pull close to pick up. We appreciate your help!
Currently, all parents have temporary tags. The actual carpool tags have been a work in progress. Thank you, parents, for being patient with Ms. Rodarte and the LSLA Main Office Staff.
Johnny Apple Seed Week
During Johnny Appleseed week, Mrs. Karlin’s Class made homemade applesauce. They followed a recipe and discussed what to do first, next, and last. The class enjoyed the delicious smells while it was cooking and eating the yummy applesauce when it was done made their day!
We are happy to share with you that our menu now includes daily Dairy Free (DF) options. We are excited to be able to serve the dietary needs of all students and give every child a delicious, healthy meal!
Our October Menu, with the new options, is now available for ordering. Click on the link above to order.
Message from the Main Office:
Hello LSLA Families and Friends,
October is a busy month here at LSLA with a lot of exciting things happening:
NWEA MAPs testing, Staff Development Day, Columbus Day, Breast Cancer Awareness Friday’s, Picture Day, Red Ribbon Week, and Book Character Day.
Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students will be taking the NWEA test during the first week of October. This test provides valuable information regarding your student’s learning and helps us to make informed decisions to best meet your child’s needs.
Monday, October 1st- Kindergarten-1st Grade (Math)
Tuesday, October 2nd- Kindergarten- 1st Grade (Reading)
Wednesday, October 3rd- 2nd-5th Grade (Math)
Thursday, October 4th- 2nd-5th Grade (Reading)
For MAPs testing all students will need a set of headphones. If your student doesn’t have headphones please send some ASAP. This was a required supply on the LSLA Supply List.
We believe that communication is the key to strong parent-teacher relationships. Please check your student’s backpack daily and keep your phone numbers and email addresses updated to ensure that you receive important information. Do not hesitate to contact us via a phone call or email!
Picture Day is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, October 10th and 11th. Ms. Carrera is asking for two parent volunteers per day who are willing to help make Picture Day a smooth process. Parents would be assisting the photographers in keeping the students quiet and focused why their classmates take pictures and assist in escorting students to and from class. If interested please email Ms. Carrera A.S.A.P.
Parent Volunteers: You must have a completed a background check form before volunteering. Since you will be on campus during normal school hours and assisting within the classrooms. The volunteer form takes up to 72-hours to return from DPS. The hours of help and assistance are 9am-1pm for both Wednesday and Thursday.
October 10th- Fall Pictures (Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 5th Grade)
October 11th- Fall Pictures (2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade)
If you have siblings and would like them photographed together they must come dressed for picture day the day of the oldest sibling. For example, if you have a 1st grade and 4th-grade student they would both come dressed for picture day on October 11th. On this day the photographers will do individual pictures of both children but also include a few sibling pictures.
“PINK OUT FRIDAY’S”
Please wear pink on Friday’s to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Students are welcome to wear a pink top with jeans every Friday in the month of October.
Again parents, thank you for ALL you do to make LSLA a dynamic Learning Environment; we could not do this without the support YOU have provided.
We look forward to our upcoming events and TOGETHER we will ensure every child succeeds.
GO EAGLES!
