Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 16th October 2020
Brave the Shave
Lacey's fantastic fundraising
At the weekend, Lacey bravely had all her hair shaved off (thank you Sam at Saks!). We are so impressed with her positive attitude and I know the children in her class have really admired her bravery and think the new hair cut really suits her!
So far Lacey has raised an extremely impressive £2021, which is absolutely amazing. If you would like to donate the link is below.

A Visit from the Police
On Thursday, the Year 5 and Year 6 children had a visit from two of the local Police Community Support Officers to discuss hate crime. The children learned what hate crime is, how it affects people and how they can report it.
"It was really interesting to learn about the way the police deal with hate crime and how we can report it." Finley O
Next week the police will be returning as part of our Community Day to share how they work to serve the people of Ripon!
The Rule of Law
Nursery's Law - We should all wear slippers and pyjamas on a Friday.
Reception's Law - Be kind to each other and paint every month.
Year 1's Law - Everybody in our county should have a bed.
Year 2's Law - Fighting and war should be illegal.
Year 3's Law - Ban all disposable plastic.
Year 4's Law - Everyone should recycle plastic and if they don't people should get fined and the money should go to charity.
Year 5's Law - Protect animals' homes and habitats so that they are not destroyed when new homes and roads are built.
Year 6's Law - Food vouchers can be earned for trading in recyclable plastics.
Every class voted for their favourite laws and at our Friday Worship we had a "Ripon Cathedral Law Contest!" Each class announced their top 3 laws. The points were counted and the favourite laws for the school were revealed:
Joint third place was Year 1, Year 3 and Year 4!
Second place was Year 5
In first place was Nursery!
Clearly comfort and dressing down on a Friday is very important to the children of Ripon Cathedral School!
School Update
Dear Parents and Carers
The pandemic situation seems to be changing on a daily basis and I am sure you are aware of some of the measures that the government have introduced with regards to the tiered response system. At all levels, the closure or partial closure of schools, is not included as an action and although there has been talk in the media of a longer half term, we have received no information from the government about this. Therefore, at school, we are very pleased that it continues to be business as usual.
Our attendance continues to be above the local and national averages and I do want to thank all families for their ongoing support in working with us to help minimise risk. A big well done to Year 1 who are our best attendees this term with an average attendance of 98.5%
Community Day - Thursday 22nd October
Although it is difficult to interact directly with our local community, we do feel it is hugely important for our children to know who they are and the community within which they belong. As part of our PSHE work we will be having a school community day on Thursday 22nd October. This will include our virtual Harvest Festival which will be led as always by Year 4.
If you have any ideas about ways in which you, as a valuable member of our school family, can contribute - eg Zoom chat with a class etc, please do let us know by emailing admin@riponcathedral.n-yorks.sch.uk.
Remote Education
Earlier in the term we shared our Remote Education Plan with you. We are ensuring that wherever necessary we are providing learning for children who are unable to access school due to the pandemic. So far we have not had to close any bubbles and have used staff within school to provide support and cover where needed. Feedback from parents and carers who have had remote learning set has been very positive and we do appreciate the vital role that parents and carers have in ensuring that children maintain their studies. We would like to ensure that all parents are aware that as education is compulsory at this time, as a school we do expect that any child who is set remote learning engages fully and completes tasks and activities. Remote learning should be about 3 - 4 hours per day and mirror what children would be doing within school.
Training Day Friday 23rd October 2020
Just a reminder that next Friday is a training day, therefore the school is not open to children. We reopen after the half term break on Monday 2nd November.
Year 6 London Trip
Normally at this time of the year we would be gearing up to take Year 6 to London. As I am sure all parents will understand, this is not possible with the current restrictions. If the national situation changes we will look at opportunities for Year 6 in the summer term, however due to the uncertainty that the future holds we can't make any decision at this time. Thank you for your understanding on this matter.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards

Message from The Friends
Hello Everyone,
The Friends would like to thank everyone for their Bag2School contributions. Seeing all those bags of donations was really good. Once we know how much we raised we will pop it into the weekly update but we can confirm that it was 200kg of clothing and accessories!
The second hand uniform sale will go up onto our Friends Facebook page on Friday 23rd October. Each item will be 50p each. Please keep an eye on the page to grab a bargain. Please keep hold of any second hand good quality uniform with or without logos on.
Have a lovely weekend everyone. Stay safe.
