5/6 Building at Georgetown Updates
2-2-23
Letter from Mrs. McClure
Hello Future 56G Families and Students,
Happy February 56G Families and Students! January was definitely a very busy month as we wrapped up scheduling with the current fifth grade students. First, I want to say thank you to all of our fifth grade families for their help and support with scheduling your child/ren for electives for sixth grade. I also want to send a huge shout out to our fifth grade teachers for allowing our MS music team, Mrs. VanZalen (MS counselor), and me to come into their classes to discuss music options, fit students for instruments, and schedule fifth grade students for next year! It was definitely a process and took time out of their already busy schedules, and we appreciate their flexibility and support with this big task. Finally, I want to thank our amazing MS music team, Mrs. Bush (orchestra), Mr. Jacobs (band), Mrs. Lenhart (orchestra), Mrs. Koella (band), and Mrs. Wallace (choir) for all of their hard work preparing and leading parent meetings, fittings, and music demonstrations for our incoming students. It definitely takes a village to support our students and help them prepare for future adventures!
During the month of February, I hope to pop into all of the fourth grade classrooms to discuss what a typical day will look like for a fifth grade student and give them a virtual tour of the building. I will be reaching out to teachers later this week to set up dates and times for these discussions!
As we trudge through the peak of winter, we are still doing a lot of things behind the scenes to prepare for this fall. Below you will find updates about the 5/6 daily schedule, what lunch will look like, and more! I also linked the parent FAQ sheet as well as the student FAQ sheet. When you get a moment, please check out this information to hopefully answer any questions that you may have.
Finally, we have been busy setting up a 5/6 website and created 5/6 Facebook and Instagram pages. I will continue to send out bi-weekly communication to building principals and 4th/5th grade teachers, but will also link communication right to the website/FB/instagram pages. The links are below for all of these sites.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions that you may have in regards to the 5/6 building and next year. I will continue to update you as decisions are made to help make this transition go smoothly! Thank you all again for your support.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and get time to enjoy the snow!
In partnership,
Melanie
A Look into Lunch at the 5/6 Building
Here is a peek at what the lunch blocks will look like for our fifth and sixth grade students at #56G!
- Two lunch blocks for fifth grade-20 minutes to eat first and then 15 minute recess
- Two lunch blocks for sixth grade-15-20 minutes to eat first and then 10-15 minutes to go outside
- Lunch currently costs $3.00 for a secondary lunch. This price could change, but we will update you on this if it does!
- Students will no longer order hot lunch at the beginning of the school day with their teacher. Students will enter their Student ID number when they check out of the lunch line.
- Students will use their student ID number to charge their lunch account. This is current practice at BMS, RMS, and HHS. Students will also get a student ID with their student ID number printed on it to help them in case they forget their ID number.
- There will be three different lunch option lines for students to choose a main course from: Special of the Day line (same offering as the high school), Hot Sandwiches line, and Pizza line. Students would choose an option from one of these lines. If they want more than one main entree, they can pay an additional $1.50.
- There will be a larger fruit and veggie bar for students to get sides to go along with their main entree.
- There will be a Grab & Go bar that has quick items that will also count as a main entree.
- SLUSHIE MACHINE-We will have a slushie machine! This has been the number 1 request of incoming students!
- Tuesdays and Thursdays will be potato days! There will either be sides of french fries, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, or hash browns that they can get to go along with their main entree.
- Lunch Menus will remain on a six week cycle and the first set of lunch menus will be ready for preview early this summer. Menus are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.
- If your child has a food allergy or dietary need, please make sure to reach out to our food service department to ensure that all of your paperwork is up to date!
- Free and Reduced Lunch applications for the 23-24 school year will be ready to fill out in July. We will send out more information on this as it gets closer.
- Contact Information: Please call Food Service at 616-457-2400 or email them at foodservice@hpseagles.net with any questions!

Renting/Purchasing an Instrument
How do I get an instrument for band?
If you have a financial need, please contact a director!
Instruments can be purchased outright from a reputable source (Facebook Marketplace, local music store, etc.) but we encourage you to contact your director!
Family instruments are acceptable! We encourage you to have it looked over by a director or music store before the beginning of the year.
Our highest suggestion is the Meyer Music Rent-to-Own Program.
Additional information from Meyer Music can be found HERE.

Guarneri House, a local company right here in Hudsonville, is our recommendation. You may call Guarneri House to rent your instrument at 616-451-4960 or rent online at https://www.guarnerihouse.com/
If you don't know your size, please rent a 3/4 instrument. Instruments need to be reserved by May 1.
