A Weekly Look at Grant Elementary School & the Grant PTA

Week of February 4, 2019

Principal's Message:

Outdoor Education and Field Trips at Grant

This week our sixth graders and fourth graders are going on their overnight field trips! The sixth graders take a five-day trip to Westminister Woods where the great outdoors will be their classroom for the week. The students work with naturalists on site to explore environmental science, experience team building challenges through a ropes course and develop new friendships with sixth graders from McKinley School. On this trip, Next Generation Science Standards are learned through inquiry, observation, adventure, and discovery. Students have the opportunity to bond and connect in small group sizes that maximize the learning experience and encourage reflection and growth. We can't wait to hear about their adventures!

Later in the week, our fourth-grade classes will travel to the Coloma Outdoor Discovery School for their first annual Gold Rush overnight! Coloma, California is where gold was first discovered in 1848. This program is designed especially for fourth-graders and integrates California Content and Common Core Standards. The goal of this experience is to celebrate the culture, music, and folklore of the California Gold Rush while using lessons of the past to awaken students' interest and sense of responsibility for the environment.

We are very proud of the experiential learning opportunities we provide for our students through many different field trips and recognize the value of taking our students to explore the world through hands-on learning experiences.

Many more pictures to come upon their return!

If you're able to donate to the cause, we would appreciate it so much. Here's a letter from our auction team:

Dear Friends of Grant Elementary School,

We are proud to be celebrating our 58th year of Excellence in Education.

On April 6th, 2019, the Grant PTA will be holding our 24th annual auction and dinner fundraiser, our largest event of the year! Despite the fiscal challenges schools are facing, the PTA is committed to providing our students with the tools they need to succeed. Their involvement benefits every student by giving them access to new science equipment, library books, classroom supplies, art, music, field trips, athletics and much more.

We are reaching out to our community for support, and asking for a donation of an item, gift certificate, or an experience for our silent or live auction. Your tax-deductible donation will help us sustain quality educational programs and activities for our students. Please return the enclosed form with your donation to the school office by April 1st, 2019, or contact one of Auction Volunteers listed below to arrange pickup. You will be acknowledged in auction communications that reach over 250 families, and we welcome your promotional material to display at the event.

We recognize you are frequently called upon to donate and thank you in advance for your consideration. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Lost & Found, Plus Wet Clothes on Playground

Over the weekend, tons of sweatshirts and jackets, sopping wet from the rain, were found strewn about the playground. Thanks to Grant Mom Rosalie Thompson for hanging them all up on the bar to dry out. It's a good reminder to check the Lost & Found area to see if any of your missing items are waiting for you.
