Triton Times
Eastlake Middle School 10.22.2018
Lots of great things coming up for the school. From Dia de los Muertos celebrations to sports playoffs to the Halloween Dance for District SPED Students to Game of Throws , let's try to get out there to support each other and the students. Please check out the news:
Expectations Contract! If you have not done so yet, please turn in contracts to Diana Hurst. We need these to support our behavioral expectations.
Supplies. Fear not! We will still have opportunities to order some supplies. I have worked on our budgets and we will have opportunities with our EduAbroad funds as well as PTSO grants (see hyperdoc). Please do not feel the need to excessively stock up from our current supply. We also have the option to discuss adding two different weeks of EduAbroad visitors from January to early March.
Parking. Per FAC recommendation, parking spots are on a first-come,first-served basis. Please note that there will be the following reserved spots for staff who are required to frequently leave campus: Administration/Principal Secretary, Psychologist, Cafeteria Manager. I will be asking Don to explore the removal of the extra reserved cafeteria spot.
Bathroom. To make sure that students are getting back to class at a faster pace, we will discuss re-opening the 400 wing bathroom. If you noticed that your student is out longer than usual on a bathroom pass, please let the administration team know.
Playoffs! Our students rock. They were in the playoffs this weekend. We will find out what comes next...
Flag Football -- October 20, 8:00 AM @ Olympian High School (We will update)
Softball -- October 27, 2:30 PM @ Olympian High School
Baseball -- October 20, 10:00 AM @ Mar Vista High School (We will update)
Electronic Walkthrough Form. We have a new electronic walkthrough form we are eager to try out. If you see us on our phones in the back of your class, we are working on the new form. :-)
Peer Link-Up. Don't forget to sign up for Peer Link on the hyperdoc! What a great opportunity to observe and support one another.
As always, Go Tritons! If you have something that you would like me to share in the Triton Times, please let me know.

SDCUE
Please consider this great PD opportunity. CUE puts together an awesome experience.
Self-Control (Triton Trait of the Month!)
For the month of October, we will be focusing on Self-control. Don't worry, Kindness Mondays will continue all year long (If you have a kindness challenge, be sure to forward it to Mrs. Rose and the TNT crew).
With Halloween just around the corner, we know the impact of self-control (try making kids eat only one piece of candy!). As we know in working with young individuals, self-control can be one of the hardest traits for a student to master. Let's explore the impact of self-control on students' ability to influence their own future during this month. We know that students who can defer instant gratification will be better off in the long run in many different areas of their lives. Our definition of self-control will be the ability to exercise restraint in light of impulses, desires and emotions.
Consider sharing the following 8 minute YouTube video with your TSP to introduce the Triton Trait of having Self-control. The link the the video is also posted on the Triton Trait Curriculum link on our Systems Hyperdoc. Feel free to add to the list of resources. Here is a video of the marshmallow experiment as well.
In the weeks to come, be sure to nominate students for Triton of the Week who exemplify having self control
A Message from our Associated Student Body
Red Ribbon Week
- Monday - Lunch Activity: Take the Pledge - ASB will have a banner that reads "ELM Pledges to be Drug Free" that students will be invited to sign. ASB will pass out ribbons and candy to all that sign.
- Tuesday - Spirit Day: Wear Red in honor of the national start to Red Ribbon Week
- Wednesday - Spirit Day: Wear Orange in honor of National Unity Day.
- Thursday - Lunch Activity: Cigarette Knockdown - Students will have a chance to kick a soccer ball at a giant cigarette in the pavilion.
- Friday - Spirit Day: Sock it to Drugs & Tobacco (Crazy Sock Day)
ASB will have a few facts to share and the kiddos on the Triton News Team will have a few videos to show on the morning announcements. If you have time in your TSP classes, please also consider giving your students time to explore TeensHealth.org. There is a ton of information (not just drugs & alcohol) presented in a very teen friendly fashion.
The Annual 8th Grade Trip to Disneyland
The Annual 8th grade trip to Disneyland is on Friday, November 3rd. The ASB is still looking for a few teachers to help chaperone.
Please use the following link to sign up after reviewing and accepting all chaperone responsibilities.
Chaperones will be selected and notified as soon as possible. Unless there are excess spots available, chaperones will receive one ticket (no guaranteed guest).
The ASB is extremely grateful for all of the support given by staff and teachers! Thank you for considering joining in on the fun!
