Take Responsibility, Always Growing, Better Together
Dec. 9, 2022
A message from me...
Good Afternoon!
The final week of the quarter is upon us! For many the final week of a quarter and exams creates stress and anxiety. We have an opportunity to Step Up and be disciplined in our response to the upcoming week. There are four key points to help you Step Up!
- WIN THE MOMENT: Be in the moment, focus, if you lose a moment, win the next one! You won't win every moment each day, but have a strategy to win the next moment! Don't lose 2 in a row.
- WORK THE PROCESS: Really that means stay disciplined. You can't get the results you want without embracing the process!
- ANTICIPATE: Next week is a predictable schedule of events, what are we doing in the prior days to help us prepare to get the results we want? (i.e study each night for X hours).
- BE RESILIENT: Adversity: everybody gets it, and nobody wants it. Next week is a challenge but we can do it! Stick with your process and you will get through it.
I believe in you and we will get through it together. Have a wonderful weekend!
Better Together,
Mike
Weekly Schedule
Directions for Leaving Early During Exams
In order to leave early each day of exams (prior to 1:18pm) we ask that a student have a note. This ensures that parents are aware that their child is leaving school and we as the school have documentation.
There are two ways to submit a note for this early dismissal:
- Handwritten note, signed by the parent. This is the easiest and most efficient.
- Email. If you submit an email please put Exam Excuse in the subject line followed by the students name for the filter to work. This will help our team handle the volume of emails that will be sent.
- If your child is leaving multiple days, you may put that on one note.
- NO PHONE CALLS OR TEXT MESSAGES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Students do not need a note to come late to school.
SEMESTER 1 EXAMS FINAL PROCDURES
SEMESTER EXAM WEEK PROCEDURES (Dec. 13-16)
With exam week approaching we wanted to send this out as a reminder for some and new information for others. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
- Exams are given in all yearlong courses and are 10% of the studentβs semester course average. Students will take their exams during the adjusted schedule that can be found here. Exam days are considered days of attendance to school and students are expected to attend during the date and time of their scheduled exams.
- Students do not need to arrive at school until their first scheduled exam period of the day. Notes are NOT required for students who are arriving for a late exam. In order to keep hallways noise to a minimum, students are expected to wait in the COMMONS until an exam dismissal bell.
- Students need to bring A WRITTEN NOTE or parent MUST send an email to the attendance office if they plan on leaving school after an exam, otherwise, they are expected to come to the commons for lunch and study hall until the busses arrive at 1:18.

DYA Volunteer Opportuniites
Dublin Youth Athletics hosts an annual travel basketball tournament (Boys and Girls grades 4-6) each year in December. The past few years we have had Dublin high school students volunteer to work our concessions booth and work the admissions table. This years tournament is December 16-18 at the five Dublin middle schools.
This is a great opportunity for students to get some volunteer hours for their resume and to meet NHS requirements.
We greatly appreciate it and their support helps make this tournament a success each year!
Animal Awareness Club Visits Deer Run
DJHS Animal Awareness Club visited three Deer Run second-grade classrooms (Mrs. Milburn, Versage, and Morris). They shared what they do as a club and set up stations of activities for the kids. They made cut and tie blankets that we donate to local animal shelters; they made pet treats that we bake and also donate to local shelters, and they also drew pictures and made ads for local pets that are up for adoption.
Congratulations Kaela!
Congratulations to senior, Kaela Meyer, who competed in the regional Irish Dance competition in Indiana this past week. 120 dancers competed in her age group and out of 120, Kaela placed 9th overall which led her to qualify for the World Irish Dance championship competition which will be held in Montreal, Canada in April 2023.
Kaela has been dancing since she was 4 years old. Her dream has been to make it to the World competition and she was proud to share that she finally made it after falling short each year. Her smile says it all!
