Principal Lamour's Corner: Week 12, We Got This, Luce Crew!
Hello Luce Crew,
"Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." James Baldwin
The past few weeks have been hard for me as a result of the recent social events in the world—specifically, the painfully visible harm to Black people on display on our news outlets. For me, it has been tough to witness.
Last week, our district shared a letter with all Canton families, to denounce the social injustices we have witnessed in the world and to continue to express our firm belief that all children belong in our dynamic district. That is the work of our Strategic Framework. As a district, it is even more critical to have our pulse on equity and disrupting the ills of our society, specifically the blatant racism and injustices captured each day.
Subsequent to the district's email, I shared a few resources with my incredible staff at the Luce regarding social change. One of these resources is a list of children's books for social change. I believe that literature is a powerful tool to broker hard conversations, and I am sharing this list of great children's books with you as a resource to explore with your child(ren) as you see fit. Please see the list of phenomenal books attached below.
This school year, we started strong; now, we must end the year strong! Let's work together to ensure that we end this unprecedented school year off strong!
I wish you the best week ahead. Again, please let me know how we can best support you and your family.
We got this, Luce Crew!
Student Drop Off & Pick-Up Days Are Scheduled!
As we near the end of the school year, we are preparing to close down our classrooms and provide students with the opportunity to collect their personal belongings and return any school property they may have. Please see the plan below.
These plans may be subject to change pending the Governor’s updates and Town guidance.
Student Pick-Up/ Drop-Off Days
The Process
The Luce will have three days to have students pick-up their personal belongings and to drop off any school materials/property. Each grade will have a two-hour window to engage in this process. We are asking that parents engage in the following procedure outlined below.
Stop 1
Parents will have the names of their child(ren) (First and Last) and their teacher's last name and grade on a paper placed on the dashboard of the car.
Each parent will drive up to the front door of the Luce.
A staff member outside will walkie the runner with the name and class of the child. The runner will retrieve the student materials and bring them to the trunk of the parent's car.
After collecting your child (ren) personal belongings, you will be able to drop off library books or school materials in labeled bins/ tote bags provided by a Luce staff member. Materials will be collected as parents drive up to the school door. Students in grades 4&5 will be able to drop off musical instruments as needed on this day as well. The goal of the day will be to allow traffic to move fluidly through the parking loop.
If you do not have any school property to return, you will drive safely out of the parking loop.
