Heights Happenings
Winston Heights PS - Term 4, Week 6 2021
Principal's Message
SCHOOL OPERATIONS UPDATE: Level 3 Guidelines Continue ...
All schools will operate on updated Level 3 settings for the remainder of Term 4, including retaining the existing stage-based cohort model. This will also include the staggered finishing times for all students K-6.
Parents & Carers on school site
Fully vaccinated parents and carers are allowed on site to support curriculum delivery, vulnerable students or students with disability, student wellbeing activities and school operations (for example canteens and uniform shops), or to attend essential meetings (e.g. suspension meetings).
Parents and carers must check in using the school check-in, show proof of vaccination on entry to the school site and follow mask-wearing requirements.
Parents/carers that have to come onto school site only for a very short period of time do not need to be vaccinated. This could include for an orientation drop off, sick bay pick up, making a quick appointment, dropping off a forgotten lunch etc. But the parent/carer should minimise contact, follow physical distancing rules and leave the school site as quickly as possible - or in the case of an orientation/transition visit for a very young child, as soon as supervision has been passed over to a school employee.
Visitors & volunteers on site
Fully vaccinated visitors – such as volunteers and non-school-based Department of Education staff – are allowed on site to support curriculum delivery, wellbeing programs and school operations that maintain student cohorts. These include programs such as canteens and uniform shops.
All visitors must sign in using the school check-in app and show proof of vaccination status on entry to the school site. For more information, refer to the Vaccination guide for non-employees.
Assemblies and presentations
Assemblies are allowed outdoors on school site. However, parents are not able to attend and students must remain in their current cohorts.
The organisation for our end of year assemblies will be shared with our community as soon as the details have been finalised.
Pleasingly, at this stage, our Year 6 Graduation will be able to be shared in person with one fully vaccinated adult able to attend for each Year 6 student. We are extremely excited about this and working on our COVID-safety plan for the event. Details will be shared with Year 6 families when they are finalised.
Year 6 Farewell
We are currently waiting for an update from NSW Health and the Department of Education in regards to student farewell events being held at external venues.
Please know that information about the Year 6 Farewell will be shared with you as soon as the details have been finalised. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding and patience.
If your child is unwell or has any sign of illness they must not attend school
If your child is unwell, even with the mildest of symptoms, they need to stay at home. Please, do not send your child to school if you know they are unwell.
If your child displays or complains about any of the following symptoms, they must not attend school:
· fever
· cough
· sore throat
· shortness of breath
· fatigue
· aches and pains
· headaches
· runny or stuffy nose
· diarrhoea
· sneezing
Any person with any of the above COVID-19 symptoms must be sent home and not return to school unless:
· they have isolated for 10 days, when no medical certificate is available
· they have a negative COVID-19 test result and are symptom free.
Students displaying symptoms (even mild) will be brought up to the office by a member of staff. Our admin staff will contact the parents and request the student to be picked up immediately. If the student is not already wearing a mask, you may also be asked if it is ok for admin staff to provide your child with a mask to wear while in sick bay.
For the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and families, it is important that we all work together to follow the guidelines provided by NSW Health and the Department of Education.
In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter from their medical professional may be sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test. The principal has the discretion to request further information and approve or decline the medical certificate. Medical certificates are generally only valid for a period of two weeks, however in discussion with parents and medical professionals, this may be extended at the principal’s discretion.
