Indoor Mask Requirement
After this meeting, PUSD will put out a communication to explain next steps, starting the week of March 14th.
Intent to return to SME for the 2022-23 school year
Parent Volunteers on Campus- PLEASE READ
Teachers will be sending out a communication with the days and times parent volunteers are needed in their classroom, if any, for those of you who meet the requirements and are approved. Not all parents will be able to volunteer, even if eligible.
All parent volunteers are subject to screening by the principal.

COVID Screening and Testing at SME
Please STAY HOME if you have ANY symptoms.
Screening Questions Daily before coming to school
- Do I have a fever?
- Do I have a cough?
- Am I experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
- Am I experiencing any other symptoms?
- Have I been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days?
- In the last 10 days, have I been directed to quarantine, isolate or take a COVID-19 test?
How and Where PUSD Students and Employees Can Get Tested
PUSD offers COVID-19 PCR oral or nasal swab tests on campuses and at the District’s Primary Clinic, 8 a.m. - 3:30 pm. By appointment, please call (626) 396-3600, ext 88180
On PUSD campuses(SME) weekly testing, on Thursdays, is available for ALL students and staff.

We are holding at 86% of students registered.
STEPS to follow if you get a POSITIVE COVID test result
1. Immediately isolate from all others(family, school, sports, after-school enrichment and daycare)
2. Contact Mrs. Lewis/Ms. Rupp to notify POS results
3. Expect a phone call/contact from Health Department for specific information and quarantine next steps
4. Receive a short-term independent study agreement from SME
5. Complete assigned school work, if feeling well
6. Call and/or contact school/teacher if any questions
STEPS to follow if you are requesting and Independent Study(IS) Agreement
1. Send an email to your kid's teacher and Mrs. Lewis to request an IS agreement
2. Include which days you are agreeing to work remotely on the Canvas work posted by the teacher.
3. Include if you are choosing to do an IS or if you are needing to, due to an exposure or POSITIVE COVID-19 lab confirmed PCR test.

Jog-a-Thon: Final Donations Due by Friday!!
Now that the running is done, it's time to collect those donations! There are some fun prizes to be won! Students have 2 more days to collect donations to support Jog-A-Thon to be eligible for prizes and raffles!
These funds will go toward lunch tables (check out the unfortunate wear and tear the indoor tables have due to moving them outdoors). We'd like to use PTA funds to purchase outdoor tables and replace or repair all of these indoor ones. Your donations can make a HUGE impact here!

Steam Day 2022 is coming!
Save the date: Steam Day will happen during school hours this year on March 31!
It will be a fun-filled day of special presentations and activities all centered around science, technology, engineering, art and math.

*SME Has Talent! - Show Us Your Act On March 14/15*
The Talent Show is back! SME’s talented kids will perform in person on April 16th, and performers of all types - singers, dancers, musicians, magicians, comedians, emcees, and more - are encouraged to participate.
Details are available on the attached flyer, which you’ll need to complete and bring to Show Us Your Act day on either March 14th @ 1-3:30 pm or 15th @ 2:30-5:00 pm!
Note: Your act doesn't have to be polished and perfect, just together enough to give us a sense of what you're doing. If you show us your act, you will have a spot in the show!
COVID Guidelines:
As of this writing, performers (unless they are playing a wind instrument) will be masked and audience members will be required to both mask and show proof of vaccination (or negative COVID test), per PUSD guidelines.

SEED is recognizing National Developmental Disabilities Month! Check out the SEED resource guide to learn more about the fight for Disabilities Rights. SEED highlights Disability Rights leaders Judy Heumann and Haben Girma. Learn about Raymond Hu, a recognized artist with Down syndrome who fights for environmental rights through his paintings.

FREE USC Mobile Dental Clinic
We are excited to announce that Young and Healthy is once again sponsoring the USC Mobile Dental Clinic for children ages 5-18. The Clinic is scheduled February 17-25, 2022 at Blair High School. Dental assessments and treatment will be provided at no cost to the parent/guardian.
