Teaching and Learning Corner (with Ms. Snyder)
As we transition to full instruction this week, giving effective directions is a key element of setting our scholars up for success! We will spend two weeks focused on “What-To-Do Instructions,” honing in on “break it down” this week.
- Be Specific: “Put your pencil down”, “place binders on your desk"
- Be Concise: Ensure economy of language. State the steps once, make them visible when possible, and ask for a scholar check for understanding.
- Be Sequential: “First, jot your answer in your binder. Second, turn and talk with your partner. Third, be prepared to share out.
Watch the best practice video below as you continue to build your teaching toolkit.
iReady Make-Ups:
We will conduct make-up testing for iReady this week in the Cybrary through pull-out in groups of 5-6. The grade assignments are:
- Zimmerman: 1st & 2nd
- McGregor: 2nd
- Robinson: 3rd (Ms. Cain will test reading whole class Tuesday during the first block of the day.)
- Guilford: 4th
- 5th-8th will continue diagnostic on Wednesday during ASB intervention time
Standards-Based Grading HOS Tracker:
Reminder: We are tracking! You should download your tracker and have in hand during instruction. You are recording these grades in your individualized trackers each week found here.
Parent Communication: Friday you need to reach out to any parent whose scholar has less than a 70% in the HOS tracker in any category. I recommend having a standard message you send to each parent through your communication app.
Professional Development: See below for this week's PD topics
- K: IRLA Leveling
- 1-2: Explicit Vocabulary Instruction through Non-Fiction Read Alouds

CULTURE AND CLIMATE CORNER (with Mrs. Douglas)
This Week's Global Greatness Look Fors:
1. LIVESCHOOL USAGE: Beginning this week, Live school Checks will be printed by your Scholar Support Specialist (S3) on Fridays. Please ensure that they go home with scholars to be signed by a parent/guardian. S3s will collect them on Mondays for (RS and LL) and Tuesdays for (CA). Also please remember to be consistent with your Friday in-class incentives so that scholars can in.
All classes that have been in 100% uniform will be acknowledged on Wednesday. Keep up the great work!!!
2. EXPLICIT NAMING OF VOLUME LEVELS: All teachers are expected to use our Global Greatness language when directing scholars about volume. For example, "We are traveling in the halls so we should be at a volume level zero."
OUR FUN RUN IS THREE DAYS AWAY!
Our boosterthon fun run is scheduled for this Thursday. Lets please work together to encourage scholars to participate. Remember, our goal is for each scholar to raise $25 and for each class to raise $600. Scholars and classes that meet the goal will receive a special incentive.
Encourage your parents each night in your communications to promote the boosterthon to their family and friends. Also, be sure to show the character videos each day in class. The boosterthon team will continue to stop by your classrooms for quick visits throughout the wek. Together, we can meet our $15,000 goal.
