Fall Fun
September flew by! I am so appreciative of the conversations I was able to have throughout the course of parent contact week. The feedback was greatly appreciated as I continue to plan engaging lessons that will appeal to the various learners in my classroom.
This month, we have many fun activities planned in all subjects. We will continue to do word work in both languages. I have planned a variety of centers including rice tracing, ping pong , pipe cleaners and friendly games of hangman that will allow the students many opportunities to practice their sight words and word families.
Fall is here and we have some very fun activities planned this month. If you are interested in volunteering for this activities, I would be more than happy to have you in the classroom.
Pumpkins: WANTED
This will be a great activity for all! Students will decorate their pumpkins with a very distinct face displaying very prominent features that will make them easily recognizable. Once they have completed these wanted creations, students will have fun creating wanted posters to catch their pumpkins! Students will use the wonderful tool of technology to make a very cool project to share. This project is planned for October 19th in the afternoon. Please let me know if you are available to come in and assist with this project. More details will follow shortly.
Yoga in the leaves
This will be a great opportunity to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and the beautiful surroundings. Who doesn't love playing in the leaves? More details will follow once we have a date determined.
Here is what we've been working on in the classroom:
In French Language Arts, we have been focusing on oral communication as well as reading comprehension. We have discussed how to determine important information and how to make it evident in a text we are reading. We will continue to work on reading comprehension all year long. This month, we will be working on pre-planning our writing, sentence structure and how to write sentences that include detail. This will lend itself nicely to Halloween and some very cool creative writing opportunities!
In English Language Arts, we will continue to work on word families. Thus far, we have learned about the following families: ap, ing, sh, th and ag. In addition, we will be finishing up our novel study of Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire.
In Science, we will continue to work on animal life cylces. We have been having lots of fun learning about how to categorize animals as well as the specific details that different a category from another.
In math, we will continue to work on our patterning skills. We will also continue to develop our mental math skills with fun games. I am very excited to begin using a new math website this month. Students will have their personal accounts on IXL math which is an excellent program that offers individualized lessons. Each child can access their account from home and practice and refine their new math skills. Please watch for a parent letter in your child’s home folder.
In Social Studies, we will continue to work on our mapping skills. We will be learning the many useful component on a map as well as how to draw a map including the cardinal directions. Also, we will be having our very first guest speaker this month! Students will enjoy a presentation from CARE. Christa Jette will be here to talk with all grade 3 students on a monthly basis in regards to the various holidays, traditions, customs and food as well as the quality of life around the world. We are so lucky to meet and speak with many different guest speakers from around the world.

Halloween Party
This will be a very fun Friday! The Grade 3 students are so lucky to be able to celebrate this fun holiday in style! All Grade 3 students are invited to get dressed up in the morning as we will be swimming in the afternoon. Therefore, please feel free to send your child to school dressed up.
We will be swimming from 1-2 p.m. so please pack a swimsuit, a towel and a cloth to wipe off any make-up before entering the pool. Parents are welcome to join us!
Once we get out of the pool and return to the school, students will have a choice to celebrate in our classroom or visit a neighboring Grade 3 room. We will have a choice of movies or activities for them to do and enjoy with their friends.
If you’d like to send a special snack to share, please feel free to do so! We have 20 students in our classroom.
Please feel free to pop in and enjoy the afternoon festivities with us. It will be a great afternoon with the Grade 3 Goblins!
Enjoy some of our classroom art right in the newsletter!
