Weekly Academic Standards
Reading: 3.RL.2.1 Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. 3.RL.2.3 Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the plot.
Writing: 3.W.4 Apply the writing process to generate a draft by developing, selecting and organizing ideas relevant to topic, purpose, and genre; revise to improve writing, using appropriate reference materials and edit writing for format and conventions.
3.W.2.1 Write Legibly, leaving space between letters in a word, words, in a sentence, and the edges of the paper.
Math: 3.M.5: Find the area of a rectangle with whole-number side lengths by modeling with unit squares, and show that the area is the same as
would be found by multiplying the side lengths. Identify and draw rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same
area and different perimeters.3.M.6: Multiply side lengths to find areas of rectangles with whole-number side lengths to solve real-world problems and other mathematical
problems, and represent whole-number products as rectangular areas in mathematical reasoning.3.M.7: Find perimeters of polygons given the side lengths or by finding an unknown side length.
EDM Unit 3 - Perimeter and Area
We have spent several days learning and practicing how to find the perimeter and area of rectangles and polygons. We will practice area Monday, review Study Guide Tuesday and Test Wednesday.

Reading/Language Journey's Lesson 12
Journey's Lesson 12- Read Tops and Bottoms (Tall Tale).
Spelling/phonics - we will study simple homophones, words that sound the same but are spelled different and have different meanings as well as words ending in -er and -le
Your child writes their spelling words in their planner on Monday. They will use their words to complete the "Spelling word work Bingo" worksheet- due Thursday
Grammar- writing using quotations.
Comprehension, Spelling, Phonics and grammar test will be on Thursday morning.
Writing Packet - Thursday 2/11/16
Each packet will receive 3 grades : Reading multiple choice questions), Writing (organization), and Conventions (spelling/grammar).
Please refer to the writing rubric that was attached to your child's practice response last week(1/18). I will be using the same rubric to grade their writing/conventions each week.
