Colt Weekly Update
There is No Straight Line to Success!
Colt Parents,
We had an amazing week three and we are ready to take on week four. We did take our three week checkpoint assessments last week. We are very proud of how our students did. We will be having our fist Saturday learning camp this Saturday from 8:00-11:00. Please support our efforts by bringing your child if they are invited. We will focus on any content that they need support on after we review their assessment results.
We continue to stress attendance and punctuality. Instruction begins at 7:45. If your child is arriving after that time, they miss breakfast, the daily announcements and will be marked tardy.
Students who have excessive absences and/or tardies will not be allowed to participate in any campus-based activities. Punctuality and attendance are life skills.
We thank you in advance for your efforts in helping us attain these goals.
We are very excited to invite any 6th, 7th and 8th grader to participate in the Desert Wind Color Guard. I hope we do have many students who join and represent our school. We will be fundraising to help cover the cost of joining. If you join, you will participate in many activities throughout the school year and you will also be performing a half-time show at Eastlake High School! Please let me know if you have issues getting to Eastlake for practice and auditions!
Breakfast is served in the classroom from 7:30-7:45. Please ensure your child is on time to take advantage of the most important meal of the day. If your child arrives after 7:45, they are tardy.
Feel free to reach out to us if you have any comments, questions or concerns.
Educationally Yours,
Leticia Terrazas

Lead from Where You Are offers a down-to-earth, implementable approach to rethinking how we build leadership and community in schools. Desert Wind is a Texas Purple Star Distinction School
We are very excited to announce that Desert Wind is now a Texas Purple Star Distinction School.
The Purple Star Campus Designation recognizes Texas district and charter schools that show their support and commitment to meeting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families.
This special honor was created by the 86th Texas Legislature through SB 1557 and further described in agency rule (19 TAC, § 61.1063), effective April 9, 2020.
In August 2021, TEA will be awarding the Purple Star Campus designation for campuses that apply and meet the established criteria (see below). Campuses that are selected will receive a special Purple Star recognition to display on campus or on the school website. Campuses selected will also have their designation featured on the TxSchools.gov web page.
