Principal Message Week of October 25th
Principal Message Week of October 25th
* There are 3 weeks left until the end of the 1st trimester. The last day of Trimester 1 is Nov 12, 2021.
We hope you all had a great weekend! Below is the Cougar Connect for the week of 10/25.
We had a great week last week, Kennedy! Here is a quick update of last week as well as what is to come.
Weather:
It looks like we will have rain next week which is great!!! Below is a quick review of our school procedures for rain during recess and lunch as well as before school. This was also shared with students last week and they will be reminded during daily announcements this week.
Please make sure you’re sending your students with coats, proper shoes, and umbrellas.
Our gates open at 8 am and we must ask students if the wellness form was completed prior to coming onto campus. Students cannot be allowed on campus until that happens and we have no staff available to supervise students prior to 8 am. Please note that students who arrive prior to 8 am will have to wait in line until our gates open.
If it rains during school recess and lunch recess, students will have three options:
Lunch Shelter
Gym
B-Quad under the overhangs
Intramural update:
Basketball ended Thursday with a great game and BBB winning. Congratulations to BBB for winning our first intramural championship! Soccer was postponed due to rain but should be getting started soon.
MSI Field Trip:
6th grade had the opportunity to go to the Marine Science Institute and thus far the trip has been going well as staff and students are having a great time. Teachers have shared some pictures that we posted below. We still have one class scheduled for Monday.

UpStream Project
Continuation from last weeks Cougar Connect:
The link below provides additional information about a new program called The Upstream Project. Kennedy Middle School is implementing the Upstream Project with community partners and participating in a study and evaluation of it. The Upstream Project aims to provide better and earlier supports and service connections to students and their families in areas like community services, housing, and school engagement, when needed.
Upstream includes a couple of research and evaluation activities: (1) your child participating in a confidential screening survey on students’ strengths and needs and (2) the school sharing some of your child’s school records with the research team so they can be linked with students’ survey data. The Upstream Project and research activities only apply to students in grades 6 and 8.
Click the link below to learn more about the Upstream Project and access the opt-out form. If you do not want us to send the survey to your child or share their school records, you may opt them out of either or both by opening this link and completing the opt-out form. If you are okay with your child participating in these activities, you do NOT need to complete the form. Although we will share this form every year, once a student is opted out of these activities, they remain opted out every year, so you do not need to opt them out again.
The form includes contact information in case you have any questions. You may access and complete the opt-out form at this link until October 29, 2021.
