WIS Library Newsletter - December 2018
Dewey's Digital Breakout
In November, language arts classes visited the library for "Dewey's Digital Breakout," a fun, competitive game where students read clues to determine various Dewey Decimal numbers. The team that finished first in each class was able to learn the combination to the lock box and open it to retrieve their prize (candy and house points).
Annual WIS Library Scavenger Hunt
During the last week in November, 6th grade students participated in our annual library scavenger hunt. This gives them the opportunity to work collaboratively in a competitive atmosphere where they must utilize all the library skills we have covered so far this year. Winning teams won house points for their houses.
Thank you to our legislature for an increase in library funding! Over 100 new books are pictured below!
Book Review - The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl
Stacy McAnulty has authored a beautiful story about a 12-year-old math savant, Lucy, who was struck by lightning as a young child and now has a miraculous ability to do complex math. Unfortunately, as a result of the strike, she has also developed several obsessive-compulsive behaviors that are causing her classmates to think she's a freak. But when she and a few other kids decide to volunteer for a project at the local animal shelter and she grows close to one dog in particular, Lucy begins to find her purpose and appreciate her uniqueness.
