Superintendent's Message
Loveland Tiger Community,
Earlier this month, I requested that the Board of Education place a 4.9 mill levy before voters this November. I want to answer the two big questions you’re likely to have about a levy, and explain the process.
What will the levy do for students?
The funds from a new operating levy would allow the district to maintain current educational program efforts. Funds would also be available to restore busing for Loveland High School students, provided the district can attract the necessary drivers. The funding includes five new full-time employees to meet future needs in the classroom and in support of students. We have recently completed our Strategic Vision process, and it is important to have some flexibility to meet student needs moving forward.
What will the levy cost?
The levy would cost the owner of a $300,000 home about $43 a month, or $515 per year. If approved, this would be the first new levy since 2014.
I proposed this levy because I believe it gives our community a chance to show its support for maintaining our current operations before having difficult conversations about what cuts will be made without additional funding.
Last night, the Board of Education voted to ask the County Auditor to certify the amount of money that would be raised by the proposed levy. This is the first step in the process of bringing it before our voters. The next step is a vote of the Board to place the levy on the ballot. We anticipate the Board will consider that during a meeting in late July or early August.
I presented quite a bit of information at last night’s Board meeting. You can review that presentation by following this link to our website. There was a technical failure with the recording of last night’s Board meeting, so a recording of it is not available, but I have re-recorded my presentation and you can view that by following this link.
Have a great summer, and go, Tigers!
