Here's what's happening in MS this week!

Dear parents,
The SCIENCE FAIR is only 3 weeks away! March 2nd is the end of the third quarter. All late work and retakes must be submitted to teachers by this Friday, February 23rd.
ENGLISH
6th Grade: Our sixth and seventh book club meetings will take place on Tuesday and Friday respectively. We have been practicing identifying and correcting fragments and run-ons. Expect a quiz on Wednesday or Thursday!
7th Grade: On Monday, we will have our final book club meeting. We will continue learning about argumentative writing as we expand to arguments of judgment. As a wrap-up of our book club books, we will be writing arguments of judgment about our characters and books.
8th Grade: Our grammar focus will be on prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections. We have finished reading The Outsiders and will complete the unit with a culminating essay. Please remember that the quarter ends soon and all late/missing work is due on Friday, February 23rd.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We are continuing with our study of Migration by looking at where large numbers of refugees and displaced persons who have been “pushed” from their homes because of war, drought, or other disasters. We will be looking closely at Southwest Asia to show locations of wars and refugees as well as discussing the differences in culture and resources of the area. We will have a vocabulary quiz on Wednesday over migration terms. Students can practice by accessing the vocabulary on Google Classroom.

8th Grade: After taking our test on the War of 1812, we will continue our evaluation of life after the war. This includes Sectionalism present in the U.S. between the North and South. We will also study the lives of African Americans during this time period, in conjunction with acknowledgment of Black History Month.
MATH
6th Grade: 6th graders took a test last week. Check powerschool for grades and also any quizzes or tests can be retaken as long as all homework has been completed. The last day for retakes and late work is Friday, February 23rd. We have started working on rates and ratios using tables and graphs to display our data. We will be converting feet to yards, cups to ounces, etc. this week.
7th Grade: 7th graders have been busy solving two-step inequalities. We continue to practice this skill and we will have a quiz this week. Check powerschool for grades and also any quizzes or tests can be retaken as long as all homework has been completed. The last day for retakes and late work is Friday, February 23rd.
8th Grade: 8th graders have been solving systems of equations using graphing and substitution. We will have a quiz Monday on graphing systems of equations. Next up is learning how to solve systems of equations by elimination. Check powerschool for grades and also any quizzes or tests can be retaken as long as all homework has been completed. The last day for retakes and late work is Friday, February 23rd.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: Students should be working on their Science Fair projects. They should be wrapping up their experiment this week, so they can analyze their data and write their conclusions. Some students have already begun typing up parts of their project for putting on their display board. Students will be presenting their project to their classmates on March 6th and 7th. Boards will be on display during Parent/Teacher conferences which will be March 8th and 9th.
7th Grade: Science Fair! Science Fair! Science Fair! Three weeks until they are due. We will be getting in tri-fold displays boards soon, and students should be typing up the different aspects of their project to place on the board. We are also studying parts of the cell and will have a quiz this week, possibly Wednesday.
