May 2019 Newsletter

Hello SLHS Families,

Believe it or not, May is here and June is just around the corner! Both months will move very quickly and summer will be here before we know it. However, there is still a great deal of work to accomplish between now and June 26th. In order for students to achieve at the level they are capable of, it is important that students are at school every day and on time.

Square Dancing & Athletics

Our students were busy square dancing last week in PE class with Mr. Brad Varner calling the steps. Square dancing is one of our most popular PE units and our students look forward to this every year. Currently, our spring athletic programs are in full swing, which include Baseball, Golf, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis, Track and Unified Basketball. Please check their schedules on the Athletic website ( The end of the year sports awards ceremony will be on Tuesday, June 4th @ 6:00pm in the HS Auditorium.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams

AP exams will be given May 6th-15th this year and the schedule is posted on the SLHS Calendar. If you have any questions about these exams, please visit the Guidance Office website or contact the Guidance Office at 897-1455.

Teacher Appreciation Week

The week of May 6th-10th is designated as National Teacher Appreciation Week, with Tuesday, May 7th being National Teacher Appreciation Day. Time is set aside to provide students, parents, administrators and community members the opportunity to express their gratitude and appreciation for the hard work and dedication that our teachers demonstrate every day. The Saranac Lake High School is fortunate to have well-respected and exceptional teachers. I want to thank them for their tireless efforts to make the SLHS a place that both challenges and cares for its students.

9th Grade Open House

The SLHS is hosting our 9th Grade Open House on Tuesday, May 21st, from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. The Open House will begin with a meeting in the gym at 6:30pm. After the meeting, students and families will have the opportunity to tour the school and visit classrooms. Clubs and groups will also be available to share what they are doing and to answer any questions. We hope you and your family can take advantage of this opportunity to see what is going on at SLHS. Refreshments will be available.
We essentially have six weeks of instruction until the Regents exams begin on June 18th. Students need to show up and finish the year strong. As always, please feel free to contact me with questions, concerns or comments.
