Returning to school during Stage 4

12/30/2021

Subject: Returning to our campus Jan. 5

Dear McBee Elementary families,

Our classrooms will open as scheduled Jan. 5.

We know what to do to fight Omicron. Our protocols helped us get through last year when there were hardly any vaccines, they helped us during the Delta variant, and they’ll help us now.

The key each time has been you. Your cooperation and support have allowed Austin ISD to consistently fare better than schools in other districts.

The best way you can help protect your child is to get boosted this week, today if possible. Also, if your children are 5 and older they can receive the vaccine. Travis County has no-appointment vaccine clinics going on now, and Austin ISD vaccine clinics will resume Jan. 8. Don’t delay, do this now.

Secondly, get yourself and your children tested Monday or Tuesday before returning to school. You can come to one of our 11 testing hubs starting Jan. 3. You can find the hours, consent form, and a complete list of locations on the district webpage. The closest location to us is Navarro ECHS at 1201 Payton Gin Rd, Austin, TX 78758.

Finally, when we see you again Wednesday, please make sure to wear a mask. A KN95 mask is best, but if none are available, a surgical mask or well-fitting cloth mask helps too.

You have the power to make this a great school year, no matter what Omicron or any other variant throws our way.

Thank you,

Yvette Celorio-Reyes

No demore, vacúnese ahora.

Muchas gracias,

Yvette Celorio-Reyes, Directora

Frank & Sue McBee Elementary

A message to McBee Families/ Mensaje a nuestras familias de McBee- 2/20/21

Dear McBee Families,

Our hearts are with you during these hard times and with everyone who suffered through the terrible winter storms. Many of you may still be out of power and/or water. Please, let me know if you are one of those families, so we can try to help. If you are in critical need, please respond to this email or contact your teacher. Your teachers will let us know and we will contact you. Currently our school is being worked on because it is without water, and some areas without heat. Since this is the current situation in many schools in our District, our central office leadership concluded that we will need time to restore power and repair damages caused by the storms. The following will be the schedule for next week:

February 22,23- Monday & Tuesday- Campus is closed. No school for students

February 24- Wednesday & Thursday- Virtual learning. Students connect with their teachers remotely.

February 25- Friday- Asynchronous learning. Students work on independent assignments and turn in work remotely.

Please, know that at all teachers and staff are anxiously waiting for a safe return to on campus instruction. As soon as our building is safe, we will communicate that to you. If you are a parent who chose virtual learning due to Covid 19, you will continue to have that choice, and your children will continue online instruction.

Our cafeteria staff is working on a schedule for curbside food distribution for next week. As soon as their schedule is worked out, I will send you the information. Also, the Water Park Typhoon Lagoon and Target in Stone Hill in Pflugerville are distributing water at no cost. Please, bring your empty containers if you need fresh water. If you do not have transportation to those places, let me know and we can find a way to bring it to you.

Please, stay safe.

Sincerely, Yvette Celorio-Reyes, Principal

McBee Elementary

Atentamente, Yvette Celorio-Reyes, Directora

Hello, McBee Bumblebees!

Fall is in the air and Thanksgiving is almost upon us. Parents and students should take this week to check homework and visit with teachers to make sure any outstanding assignments have been submitted and received.

Thanksgiving is a time of celebrating blessings of the past year. As you enjoy the break from classes next week, remember to refuel, rest, and relax.

We are thankful for our students, staff and amazing McBee community. It is truly an honor to be a part of this community and serve all of you.

October 19, 2020 Update

Hello, McBee Families!

These are some reminders for students who are receiving on-campus instruction:

  • When you are dropping off students at 7:30, everyone in the vehicle must be wearing a mask over their nose and mouth before we can approach the car to screen students.
  • The tardy bell is at 7:45 AM.
  • When you are dropping off students, please make sure you are driving slowly. Keep in mind that we have staff members helping students get off cars, and walkers crossing the road. Some drivers are speeding off after dropping off students, and we must keep everyone safe.
  • If your child was absent because he/she was running a fever of 100 or higher, you will need to bring back a doctor's note stating that the child can return to school. The student must be free of a temperature for 24 hours without medication before returning to school. If parents choose to not take the student to the doctor the child must stay home for 10 school days and be symptoms free before returning to school.
  • If you have chosen virtual instruction for your child, and change your mind, you have to wait until the next grading period to start on-campus instruction, which is October 26.
  • Students must bring bottled water to school every day, since they do not have access to water fountains.
  • Please, see the attached map to review drop off locations. 2nd-5th graders who have younger siblings are dropped off at station #2. 5th-2nd graders only are dropped off at station #1. PreK-1st graders are dropped off at station #4. Screen Shot 2020-10-16 at 8.54.22 AM (1).png

These are some reminders for students who are receiving virtual instruction:

  • Students MUST follow the teacher's daily schedule. Instruction begins at 8:00 and end at 3:08.
  • Students MUST be engaged and their cameras turned ON. For safety reasons, students who choose to keep their cameras off will be excluded from the zoom class and marked absent. The teachers must be able to see every person in the zoom call to make sure no unauthorized persons are in the call.
  • Grades will reflect amount of students work, participation, and completion of assignments.

October 12, 2020 Update

This week we continue welcoming our McBee Bumblebee students to on-campus learning based on our Phase-In Schedule for Parents who Chose On Campus Learning.docx. Our teachers and staff have been working tirelessly to prepare and organize safe classrooms for everyone and phenomenal online and face-to-face instruction!

As you know, all students and staff are required to conduct morning screenings to be on campus. If a student does not pass a screening test, please follow these Guidelines for a Safe Return to campus.

As we continue to experience a "new normal", we are all united as part of the McBee family. We should not forget that we also have a broader family, our community partners, that are able to assist with basic needs. We wanted to facilitate access to our community partners. So, we want to welcome you to "Aunt Bertha"!

October 5, 2020 Update

Greetings Parents of McBee Students,

I am attaching to this message the presentation we shared on Wednesday, Sept.30, for those of you who could not attend neither of our two Parent meetings.

We also created this chart for you to know which students are able to attend school in person, if parents chose on-campus learning. Parents always have the choice to choose Virtual Learning at home.

Our First Week of Virtual Learning

We have officially completed our first full week of virtual learning! It has been exciting to see our returning students and to greet our new Bumblebees!

We are very proud of everyone who worked hard to adapt to this new way of learning. Our staff and students collaborated each day and finished the week strong and successfully!

Although this time is much different than any other year, what we saw daily was that our school community and McBee families continue united for the good of all students and staff.

We were very fortunate to share our special McBee community with Dr. Elizalde, our new Superintendent, on our first day of virtual classes!
