What's Happening in PBS?
Week of 11/30-12/4
Welcome to another week of PBS. This week we are continuing on with our analysis of food and its nutritional content. We did not get as far as I had planned before break, so we are backing it up just a bit.
Monday the kids will be watching a video over macromolecules and the testing they will be completing in the next lab. Then I have a few review videos over diabetes and macromolecules posted that they can use to do some studying over what we have covered so far in this new unit with the rest of class time. This study time will come in handy on Tuesday when they take a quiz over diabetes and macromolecules. It's just a short quiz to make sure they are comprehending what they need to. After the quiz, they will start the lab. Wednesday they will have time to finish up the lab and work on the conclusion part of the lab.
We will finish out the week on Thursday and Friday by starting our analysis over food labels. Now that we know what macromolecules are and their chemical structure, we can focus in on what foods they are found in and what effect those foods have on the body - especially for Anna since she has to watch her diet as a Type 1 diabetic.
For HOSA this week....
- Wednesday - Physical Therapist Guest Speaker during collaboration in my room (E1)
- Thursday - T-Shirt day for 5 PD points
- Thursday - St. Mary's volunteering from 445-645 at St. Marys Manor. We do have 2 volunteer slots open, but the students have to have their flu shot to be able to attend (getting it this week is totally acceptable). Sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f4ba8a922abf85-stmarys1
- Also, we have our last Harvesters visit of the semester next Saturday, Dec 14th. We have been really struggling to find volunteers, so if your child is available from 2-4pm, we would appreciate the help. They can sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f4ba8a922abf85-hosa1
Don't forget to keep in mind that all students have to have at least 50 PD points by the end of the semester by participating in HOSA events. We are dwindling down on the opportunities, so make sure your students are keeping track of their points (that is their responsibility) and know what they need to do to meet the 50 point minimum requirement. If they have above 50 points, there is a chance they will be able to get extra credit at the end of the semester.
As always, let me know if you have any questions.
