Spotlight on Learning
In Mrs. Diaz' 8th grade english language arts class students reflect on the poetry they read. This is one reflection made by Delaney Miller, an 8th grade student at PSA.
“Snow dust to sparkles floating free.” This quote from the poem gave me so much insight into the fact that when you take a step back and look at the big picture of your life everything is different. Throughout our lives we live day by day and feel as if nothing changes, but if you ‘reread your story’ all the little things changed into the big things. Time is a huge factor in our lives and we are always told to live each minute to the fullest potential that we can and this quote shows that in one instance this snowflake was solid and then it glimmered away into thin air. When I was younger I had a lot of anxiety and stress, I always felt that I had to be an overachiever and be better than everyone else, but I went through certain things that humbled me and allowed me to realize that everyone has strengths and weaknesses and there will always be people that are better than you at things. I think that as we live our lives we need to embrace each minute as it is given to us because, just like the snowflake, anything or any opportunity can vanish right before our eyes.
This week Prestwick had the pleasure of having 12 seniors serve on their LEHS Senior Service Day on Wednesday. Seniors were seen in the gym, class, and the cafeteria giving high fives and Lobo Loot!! (Students were surprise they had some!) When leaving I asked the what were any unique things students said.
- "You are really tall."
- "Who are you?"
- "What's a senior?" (From the younger students. They clarified with 12th grade.)
- And most interesting: "What's your spirit bear?"
The Seniors laughed and loved Prestwick's environment and students. Thank you Seniors and LEHS for taking time to give back!!
Staff Spotlight- Mrs. Caren Graves
This week’s staff spotlight truly needs no introduction, many of you know her as the "boisterous voice" in the car line, but others know her as Mrs. Caren Graves. Mrs. Graves is one of our outstanding first grade teachers. This year, will mark her 12th year with Little Elm ISD and has previously served at Hackberry Elementary and now proudly at Prestwick STEM Academy.
Mrs. Graves was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico, grew up in Dallas and completed her degree at Oklahoma University with a Bachelors of Science in Education. Boomer Sooners! Mrs. Graves is certified in English as Second Language (ESL), Gifted and Talented and is currently attending the district’s leadership development program, Aspiring Leadership Institute. Her educational goals are to make learning enjoyable and challenge all students to reach a full year's growth in reading.
When Mrs. Graves is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and yellow labrador puppy named Finley. Mrs. Graves has two children, a daughter, Taylor, and son, Blake. We are proud to have Mrs. Graves apart of our PSA family!
