AcademicsNext week will be a regular week. We are now in the course registration process for the 22-23 school year. Please talk to your student to make sure you know the classes for which they are signing up for next year. Due to being in the midst of the course registration process, we will have Advisory on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday this week. Congratulations to senior Alyssa Makena for being one of 68,000+ students moving forward as a Coca-Cola Scholars semi-finalist! Finalists for the $20,000 scholarship will be announced in March. Beginning second semester, Valley High School is focusing on reducing the number of unexcused absences. One way you can help your student is by calling the school if they are absent and communicating the importance of being at school on a regular and consistent basis. | ArtsCongratulations to the following Orchestra students selected to participate in Drake University's Honor Orchestra Friday, January 21st and Saturday, January 22nd! Vivienne Andersen, Andrew Croft, Kauai Cua, Kori Davis, Anna Deschamps, Sarah Deschamps, Maarz Friesleben, Jacob Gasior, Nethra Gopinath, Kristin He, Catie Head, Ella Hill, Leif Horak Hult, Abby Johnson, Abby Lackey, Anna LaCroix, Lily Nelson, Melina Reverol, Uriel Rodriguez, Maxwell Shumaker, Anjali Tripathy, India Tuai, Haley Wince and Christina Yu. Special congratulations to Andrew Croft who earned principal viola seat and Kristin He who was selected as the concertmaster for the top Honor Orchestra! Speaking of Orchestras, congratulations to Valley's Jazz Orchestra for being selected to perform at the 2022 Iowa Bandmasters Association annual conference at the Downtown Marriott on May 12th, 2022! Of the many outstanding groups from across Iowa who applied for this prestigious honor, Valley's Jazz Orchestra was selected as the featured jazz band for the conference! We will host an informational trip meeting for Vocal students interested in the Choir trip to England and Scotland for Spring Break 2023 on Sunday, January 23rd at 2:00 PM. Below are important dates for IHSSA students and families: District IHSSA Contest: January 22 @ Osceola State IHSSA Contest: February 4/5 @ Valley All State IHSSA Festival: February 18/19 @ IS | ActivitiesSaturday, February 12th is Valley's Sweetheart Dance at the Horizon Event Center in Clive (old 7 Flags) from 7:00-10:00 PM. Tickets will be $15 and the theme is Love is in the Air!! Thank you to the parents who have signed up to assist with the Valley After-Prom Committee, though more parents and volunteers are needed for the 2022 Prom as this is an entirely parent-run event. Do you have a talent for graphic design? The After-Prom Committee is in need of your help. Email willisk@wdmcs.org for more information or join us at our next meeting in the VHS Media Center at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, January 26th. Chess Club has resumed match play Tuesdays after school in the Media Center. Students who are interested in poetry, prose or artwork are encouraged to submit their work to Ms. Perry (perrye@wdmcs.org) for a chance to be featured in Valley's literary magazine, Ink. Prayer Club meets Friday morning at 7:20 AM in Mrs. Stanfel's room, 1607. Come for breakfast, fellowship and prayer. Join the Greenhouse Club in room 1329 the first and third Wednesdays of each month after school. Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) meets Thursdays 3:30-4:15 in room 3422. Republican Club is a place for all young people to discuss politics from a conservative perspective. Meets every Friday morning at 7:45 in room 2314. Join us for Anime Club every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:30 AM in Ms. Stanfel's Room 1607. |
