Bogert Bulletin
February 2018
Dear Parents,
I would like to congratulate the 4th/5th grade chorus members and the 5th grade band & orchestra members on a great winter concert! The groups have come such a long way and I’m proud of the students for their hard work! Thank you, parents, for supporting your child’s valuable musical experiences. I would also like to thank Mr. Chen and Mr. Weinstein for their enthusiasm for, and dedication to, the music education of our children.
In a few weeks, fifth graders will take the In-View test. The In-View is a cognitive assessment that measures important skills and abilities, and it is comprised of five subtests: verbal reasoning-words, verbal reasoning-context, sequences, analogies, and quantitative reasoning. The In-View can provide anticipated achievement scores. The results help teachers plan instruction and provide objective information to be used to identify students’ strengths as well as instructional needs.
Finally, I would like to share my sincere gratitude for all of the volunteers who are leading B.L.A.ST. sessions for the students. Without their time, effort, and willingness to serve, this program simply would not exist. Thank you!!
Sincerely,
Mr. Kaplan
Bingo!
On the evening of February 1, Bogert third graders will have the opportunity to try their luck at a few rounds of Bingo! Thank you to the PTO for coordinating and sponsoring this fun evening for our third graders!
Congratulations, D.A.R.E. Graduates!
I would like to congratulate the 5th grade class on their recent graduation from the D.A.R.E. program! The D.A.R.E. experience at Bogert is not just a fun way to interact with “Officer Tara,” but it’s a critical series of lessons about the dangers of drugs & alcohol, and it empowers children to make good decisions. D.A.R.E. helps build students’ self-esteem, self-confidence, and teaches them important lessons about life. We are fortunate to have such a program at Bogert School and I sincerely thank the USR Police Department and Youth Guidance Council for making this program possible and ensuring its existence in our school year after year. We will miss Officer Tara, but excitedly welcome our new D.A.R.E. teacher, Officer Anthony!
A Word From Ms. Friedman, Spanish Teacher
¡Hola Familias de Bogert!
In Spanish this year, all students have been working extremely hard to read, speak, write, and listen to the Spanish language, and I am truly thrilled with their progress. As the students continue with the Spanish program at Bogert, they will find their understanding of the language to grow with each passing lesson. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are learning a plethora of vocabulary and grammar skills, which is sure to help them on the journey to language acquisition.
The 3rd Graders are spending their year learning how to speak about themselves, their families, and their surrounding community. They will also find themselves dancing their way through an authentic Flamenco Assembly thanks to the USREF!
For the first semester of school, 4th Graders focused on their days at school, learning how to communicate about their classes, teachers, and school materials. During our second half of the school year, the 4th grade students will learn all about different foods and its relevancy to different Hispanic cultures. I am excited to share that the 4th Grade students will be putting their Spanish ordering skills to the test by taking a field trip to a local Mexican restaurant where they will practice their Spanish speaking – and eating!
The 5th graders will focus on learning about the culture of Spanish speaking countries as well as specific language skills to help them get ready for middle school! Over the course of the school year, students will complete projects, learn about Pablo Picasso, and explore their way around Spanish-speaking countries with the help of Google Expeditions!
Sinceramente,
Señorita Friedman
