Black Death
By Sydney Buckley
What is the "Black Death?'
The Black Death was one of the worst catastrophes in Middle Ages. The disease outbreak wiped out 60% of Europe. It was VERY contagious. As soon as you got the disease, you might as well say your goodbyes. You had less than a week to live. If you look at the picture to the right, this is what people [who had the disease] looked like.
How did it spread?
The disease originated in the Gobi Desert. The bacteria on fleas that lived on rats, caused the disease to spread from China to Europe to Britain.
Buboes
This is a swollen, inflamed lymph node in the armpit or groin. One of the symptoms of Black Death.
Rats that carried disease
The bacteria on the fleas on these rats caused the outbreak.
Famous Black Death art
Famous pieces of art from the Middle Ages that gave the impression of what the time period of the catastrophe looked like.
IT STILL EXISTS!
Even though it was the greatest catastrope in the Middle Ages, it is still present to this day.
