The name The Gulf Oil Spill speaks for its self, it occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. But it spilled into Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.

How and why did the spill occur?

There was a large explosion causing more than 200 million gallons of oil to spill into the gulf of Mexico.

The damage it caused to the local environment.

It killed 11 people in the explosion and over 100000 animals were harmed or killed.

What methods were used to clean it up?

They used floating polyethylene pads to soak up the oil, also they tried a method that would turn the oil into, and more than 700 more methods.

Long lasting effects.

Well there were many physical lasting effects like all of the animals and other wild life that perished, but some of the mental lasting effects are how to clean a spill in the future and how to make sure it never happens again.
