School Newsletter - 1 December 2022
Endeavour School - December 1, 2022
Principal's Message
At Monday morning's assembly I chatted to our children about being an Endeavour Citizen. To support our children with understanding what that could look like, we explain it by 5 key actions.
- Considers others
- Includes others
- Collaborates with others
- Co-operates with others
- Is kind to others
I asked the children what key word is used in each action, and they very clearly replied "others".
Being an impactful citizen is an important learning disposition to us here at school. As we start to close off the year and finish with the same energy and intent that we start the year with, it was reassuring to have our students take note of what being an impactful citizen means.
Last week was our Book Week. This would have to be one of my favourite weeks of the year. I love the fact that we celebrate books; the way they foster kids imagination and the joy they bring. At times we can often be lead to believe that books and the traditional way of reading are under threat. Book Week confirms for us all that at Endeavour School, books are very much part of our every day.
An additional reason to Book Week being a favourite of mine is that it includes Greats and Grands Day. What a special day this was. Hosting over 250 Greats and Grands from all parts of our country as well as overseas was a real treat. I spoke to Grandparents who had travelled from South Africa, India and Australia to be here. It was a lovely way to showcase the value that unique relationship between grandparent and grandchild is. Thank you to all our Great and Grands who were able to be apart of this day, we hope you enjoyed the occasion as much as we did.
With only two weeks left in the term and our school year, I ask that we continue to support our children with finishing strong. Often we remember things with the way we finish, so let's collectively support each other with doing just that.
Finally, below are some key dates to take note of, please pen them into your calendar.
We look forward to seeing you at our Student Led Conferences next week.
Warm regards
Geoff

ADMINISTRATION
Message from the Hamilton City Council
Thanks to parents/students who walk/bike/scooter to and from school each day, or park a bit further away and walk in, this helps with the congestion we experience around our school. Please remember to park safely, do not park on yellow lines even if you are waiting in your car and please be mindful not to park in/over residents' driveways as this reflects poorly on our school.
Regards
Cam

RECENT EVENTS AT ENDEAVOUR
ENDEAVOUR SCHOOL BOOK WEEK
Last week was a busy and exciting week at Endeavour School with celebrating Book Week. During the week we had some senior students visit younger students in their learning communities to read a favourite book of their choice. You all did a fabulous job and this was clear from all the positive feedback from all teachers in their learning communities. The senior students showed bravery, pushing themselves outside of their comfort zone reading to not just a small group of students, but an entire ako group, well done!
Thank you also, to the small group of student Librarians who made beautiful cardboard cats and dogs with Miss Searancke and Mrs Hatwell, these looked amazing displayed in the book fair. These have now found a place in our school library for our school community to still appreciate.
Thank you to all the families who sent in a photo of their pet to add to our Endeavour pet display for the book fair too, if these photos weren't too late to be sent in with the email we provided, they all found their place to shine during Grandparents' morning on our pet wall of fame in our hall.
Huge thank you to everyone for the purchases made at the book fair last week.
The book fair was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who supported the Book Fair last week, over $3000 was raised for our School! We are very excited to purchase lots of new books/resources for our School and Library.
Lastly, Friday was a very fun day at Endeavour School with whole-school dress up. Well done to everyone who got involved dressing as their favourite book character. Everyone looked amazing and the two best dressed were selected from each Learning Community. Check out some of the photos from the week below!

CHARACTER DRESS UP DAY
Congratulations to our Book Character Dress Up Winners!
A big thank you to everyone who dressed up for our "Book Character" Dress Up Day! It truely was an awesome sight and much fun was had by everyone. Judging was not an easy job, as there were so many amazing characters. Our winners from each year level are in the photo below.
GREATS & GRANDS DAY
Last Thursday 24th November we had our Greats and Grands Morning. We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone that attended our event. We had an amazing turnout.
We began with a morning tea and chat with Mr Booth, then the students took their whaanau to their Learning Communities. There was a buzz of excitement around the school as students were able to share what they had recently been learning.
There was also time to go to our Book Fair. Thank you also for your support with this - our school will use the proceeds to buy new library books for 2023.
Lastly, the morning ended with a performance, in our packed hall, from our two choirs, two cheer/dancing groups, and Kapa Haka. Well done to our performers your practice certainly paid off!
Thank you again whaanau for attending this event!

LAST FRIDAY CAFE & UNIFORM STALL FOR 2022
Our last Friday cafe of 2022 will be next week on the 9th of December. Alongside the bake sale, we will also have a preloved uniform stall. You won't want to miss the chance to grab a bargain!
Mama's Donuts will be making a return and we ask that bakers please consider including a Christmas theme in their treats.
For those who are new, a few Friday afternoons during the summer term's we have our cafe.
While this is a fundraising effort our bigger goal is to give our community a chance to slow down, connect and get to know each other - and a wee treat just makes it sweeter! We sell ice blocks and sweets along with home baking. However, this is only possible with the support of families donating baked goods. That can include slices, cupcakes, etc. These items are then sold with the proceeds going back to our school.
If you are keen to join our baker's list please respond with your interest.Families taking part, we ask that you please deliver to the staffroom before 3 pm on the day of the event. If any containers or plates are left with us, please label them. They will be washed and ready to pick up the following Monday.
If baking isn't your thing, we also need some hands to ensure this runs smoothly, we are looking for some helpers to set up and sell goodies too!
Kind regards,
Mackenzie
