Book Character Dress-Up Day November 29th
We will have our annual Book Character Dress-up Day Parade at 8:00AM. All students are invited to come to school dressed as their favorite book character. Students are encouraged to “act the part” of their character during the parade. Students should bring the book that their character is in for the parade. All costumes must be school dress appropriate. Remember: Many character costumes just need a few props to create. Please do not bring toy weapons. ONLY students who are dressed will walk in the parade. Students not in book costume will line the parade route as our audience. Parents are invited to come view the parade. Please plan to arrive between 7:45-8:00AM. Our AM PK students will participate in the 8:00AM parade and PM PK students will parade alone at 1:30PM.
5th Grade Parents
The 5th Grade parent committee will be meeting on Wednesday, November 28th at 6:00 pm in the Bear Creek Elementary cafeteria. We will be talking about 5th grade T-shirts, and you will be provided with a calendar listing all the events needing volunteers, and we will discuss our plans for the end of year celebration. Please bring your ideas! If you have questions, please send an email to valenciagj@gmail.com. Thanks!
Challenge (GT) Important Information
Attention parents/guardians of 1st – 4th grade students. It’s time for the annual screening for the Gifted and Talented Program (Challenge). If you would like to refer your child to be screened for the Challenge program, you may pick up a Parent Checklist from the campus counselor or the front office. This checklist needs to be returned to Mrs. Abbey the Challenge Facilitator no later than December 5, 2018. Checklist received after this due date will not be accepted. The Parent Checklist can also be accessed on the Katy ISD website at: www.katyisd.org/dept/gt/Pages/default.aspx.
Please consult the GT Parent Checklist information sheet before completing the checklist. Follow the directions carefully. Note that when selecting a response of 3 or 4 on the checklist, you must provide an example of characteristic behavior in the space provided. If you do not provide an example, only a credit of 2 will be given. There is a difference between a high achieving student and a gifted learner. Since the elementary Challenge program is a one day a week pull-out program, children identified for the program will miss out 20% of their instructional time in their regular classroom EACH week.
Your signature on the Parent Checklist gives the district permission to collect the data necessary to screen your child for the Challenge program, and to serve your child in the program if he/she is identified.
Again, Checklists will not be accepted after December 5, 2018 in order to meet screening schedules.
If you have any questions, please call the Challenge teacher or the counselor at your child’s campus.
Mrs. Kathryn Abbey at 281 237-5498
